We’re just one week (sound the alarms!) away from the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (aka Doctor Strange 2) and just when fans thought production couldn’t sell us any harder on it, they slapped us right in the face with a new TV spot. This new ad is giving us a look at several anticipated appearances of characters including Captain Marvel, Professor X, and Captain Carter, the latter of whom will be making her live-action debut in the upcoming film. And now, the folks behind the TV spot have caused us all to flip tables and air punch while screaming “YEEESSSS!!” We hope they’re happy.

Although it’s a speedy appearance, there’s no denying spotting the unmistakable Union Jack shield that Captain Carter uses to save the world time and time again around the ad’s 0:09 timestamp. The hero looks to be facing off against Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the absolutely decimated hall of the Illuminati, but we’ll just need to gather more info before we can delve too deeply into that presumption. As always, we’re expecting surprise upon surprise from a franchise that knows how to keep a secret – that is, if Tom Holland isn’t involved (although he did great for No Way Home!).

But who is Captain Carter? Let us catch you up! The character first broke out onto the scene during the premiere episode of Marvel’s animated show, What If…? The anthology series set out to take some of Marvel’s most beloved characters, flip them on their heads, and give them new storylines and powers. Peggy Carter was the first featured character and the new spin saw her being injected with the super-soldier serum instead of her beau, Steve Rogers. After the serum took hold and transformed Peggy into Captain Carter, she chose to sport a Union Jack-themed shield and uniform to represent her native country. Her involvement in Doctor Strange 2 suggests that we can expect to see similar heroes breaking through the walls of reality.

But then again, maybe not. Captain Carter’s place in the upcoming flick makes a lot of sense as she was a standout hit from What If…? even being given a five-issue comic series following the show’s success. Being that she’s a fan favorite, it makes sense as to why Marvel would want to work Captain Carter into the multiverse while the doors are open. It’s just so hard to say as the franchise is all about that element of surprise!

Whether other characters return or appear for the first time, we’re in for an incredible treat. The already announced cast is filled to the brim with stars and guest appearances from some of the best heroes in the game including the obvious Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Wong (Benedict Wong), Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). Between the new-to-the-screen characters and those who are coming back to fill in the blanks behind their stories, the movie is going to be fitting a lot with its two-hour running time. And now with the teaser behind Captain Carter, Captain Marvel, and Professor X’s involvements, we really think Marvel should be giving us at least a three-hour movie! Regardless, all questions (or at least most) will be answered in just one week.
