In light of the recent defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, many eyes have been on DC Comics’ upcoming cinematic sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The main question on everyone’s lips is, Amber Heard, will she stay or will she go? Petitions have been cast and names have been thrown into the hat on potential replacements on numerous occasions, with the most recent name that has popped up turning a few heads. That name is Bruce Campbell, and MovieWeb reports that the B-Movie star and Spider-Man cameo sensation has responded to a petition to cast him as Mera in the DCEU film.

As is the case with many a movie rumor these days, a petition to re-cast Mera with Bruce Campbell, thus replacing Amber Heard in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, did the rounds on Twitter. Campbell was sent a Tweet regarding the petition informing him that it had reached 3 million signatures. Campbell then responded to the Tweet, writing; “Send me a script.”

Petitions and Aquaman have become common bedfellows in recent times as a result of the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. The court of public opinion sided with Depp long ago, but now a jury has ruled in favor of the Pirates of the Caribbean star. Throughout the trial a petition to have Amber Heard removed from her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom had been racking up a considerable number of signatures, at last count, GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT saw that the petition had reached a whopping 4.5 million signatures. Suffice to say, the calls for Amber Heard to be removed from the film will be increasing in number following the defamation verdict and many names have joined Bruce Campbell in the conversation of a Heard replacement.

While Bruce Campbell might not be the most suitable replacement for Amber Heard as Mera, the internet hasn’t been short of offering up a more suitable alternative. GameRant reports that a section of fans has been calling for Gossip Girl alumn Blake Lively to suit up as Mera. This is a sentiment echoed by Looper, who also reports that fans have suggested that Mera could be removed from the film altogether and Lively could instead portray a different character from the comics, Dolphin.

However, hypothetical fan castings mean nothing if Warner Bros remains true to its stance that Heard won’t be replaced. Despite Variety reporting that Warner Bros did indeed consider removing Heard from the DC film (although this was due to on-screen chemistry with the film’s lead Jason Momoa) and further reports that suggest her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been greatly diminished, as it stands, the actress still holds on to the role of Mera. So it looks like the Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell won’t be swimming in green on cinema screens anytime soon. However, for those missing the days that Campbell would appear in superhero films, a habit he made with the Sam Raimi trilogy of Spider-Man films, Campbell and Raimi reunited on the latter’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which saw Campbell back to his hilarious cameo antics.
