The next big Marvel cinematic event is just around the corner with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hitting us in May. The movie is directed by Sam Raimi, which would seem to all but guarantee a Bruce Campbell cameo. But now, Campbell himself is saying his cameo might be left on the cutting room floor. In a recent interview with the Radio Labyrinth podcast, he mentioned that we may or may not see his “pivotal cameo” and that we’ll have to wait until May to find out for sure.

That’s fair enough, but he also said, “If I were Benedict Cumberbatch, I would be worried that I would get cut out.” Bruce Campbell is known for his sarcastic wit, so consider us skeptics that Raimi would let a good potential cameo go to waste. We have a feeling that Campbell is going to show up one way or another.

With that being said Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness definitely has a lot of ground to cover (Bruce Campbell or no), so it’s fair to say that juggling another cameo in the midst of the movie might not be doable. It looks like we’ll already be seeing Charles Xavier himself, played by Patrick Stewart. Plus, we have a multiversal Doctor Strange also played by Cumberbatch, a potential multiverse Iron Man variant, Scarlet Witch, and so much more. The movie is shaping up to be a wild ride, and there are sure to be more surprises in store that we still don’t know about.

We don’t want to assume anything about Bruce Campbell’s cameo, but it would be interesting if he ended up playing a multiversal variant of Mysterio. The connections are all there, and fans have been speculating this could be the mystery (sorry) role that he and Raimi have been teasing. See, Campbell was set to play Mysterio in Sam Raimi’s fourth Spider-Man movie, which never came to fruition. With Tobey Maguire making an MCU appearance very recently, there’s a chance that Campbell’s version of Quentin Beck could make a brief appearance.

After Jake Gyllenhaal’s version of the character died in Spider-Man: Far from Home, the door is wide open. Bruce Campbell also jokingly made it seem like he could be playing one of his most famous roles, Ash from the Evil Dead franchise. He even tweeted a page from the “script” where Ash has a conversation with Doctor Strange. Even though this was a joke, fans are still buzzing over who he could possibly be playing.

As Campbell himself has said, it does seem like we’re just going to have to sit tight and wait until May to see who he’ll be playing in the MCU. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Strange casts a spell that opens up the multiverse and has to deal with the consequences. The movie also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Xochitl Gomez. Sam Raimi directs.
