Brie Larson Captain Marvel

Brie Larson is quickly becoming one of the truly elite and recognizable talents in all of Hollywood. She is leading one of the industry’s biggest franchises within a franchise and has gone from an arthouse name to a full-blown legit action star. It’s amazing, a little bit surprising, and totally groundbreaking. And now she’s set to do something we haven’t seen yet in the comic book superhero world. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will now be repositioned as an LGBT character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This news of Brie Larson having her Captain Marvel be a gay character isn’t surprising and has been hinted at for a little bit now. Recently, there was a rumor that Marvel was actively planning for an openly gay character coming in this Phase Four of films with some speculation it could be this move. Additionally, Brie Larson was reported to have been actively campaigning for an all-female cast of the next movie. That wouldn’t, in and of itself, signaled this direction but combined together began to make a little sense.

And finally, unrelated to this character announcement, Brie Larson had recently caused some talking when she hinted at being gay on her YouTube channel. When taken together, this news makes a lot of sense and is a very cool direction for the character.

This will be one of the first Marvel Cinematic Universe openly gay characters though it for sure won’t be the last. There are already rumors of storylines in the upcoming Eternals which have the characters of Phastos and Hercules who are both gay in the comic book pages. That movie is due out in just about a week on February 12th. And there are a number of other possibilities as well now that the X-Men are coming into the fold. Characters like Kitty Pryde, Mystique, and Psylocke are all openly gay in the comics.

Brie Larson continues to push forward her voice in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and clearly has a great deal of sway within the industry. She is reportedly going to sign a deal for about $15 million dollars for this next movie which would make her the highest-paid actress in the game. Plus, as mentioned, she already has stated she wants more inclusion in both gender and diversity in the films. Who her love interest will be in the film isn’t clear and there’s no guarantee that just because the character is gay, they feel the need to introduce that aspect. The first movie had no relationship aspect to it and was just fine.

The Captain Marvel sequel is already setting up to be groundbreaking on a number of different levels with Brie Larsen becoming such a powerful voice in both the franchise and Hollywood in general. Before catching her there, know she’s been quite active on her YouTube channel, connecting with fans with all kinds of look-ins to her life. It stands to reason, if the rumors are true, that she’ll be commenting there about the updates to the franchise.
