With all of the changes coming to the DCU in the wake of James Gunn and Peter Safran being promoted to Co-CEO’s of DC Studios, there has been a slew of cancellations, but possibilities now exist as well for more characters and actors to join the cinematic universe. One such actor, Brenton Thwaites, is already involved with a DC franchise, playing Nightwing on the HBO MAX original, Titans. In an interview reported on by Screenrant, the actor behind Dick Grayson has not been asked if he would reprise his role, but he is onboard if the opportunity presents itself.

Brenton Thwaite is a fan of the character he portrays, saying that any decision “It’s not up to me, it’s up to Warner Bros.” On if he would take the role, the actor explained “It would be a great honour to bring Nightwing to the big screen. If we were to do that, and if there was a bit of money behind a film version of Nightwing, it would be one of the greatest superhero stories out there.”

Titans brings the Dick Grayson led superhero team, originally Teen Titans, to the small screen. Brenton Thwaite has been portraying Nightwing for the past four seasons, growing into his role as team leader, while the cast continues to grow around him. Anna Diop (Starfire), Teagan Croft (Raven), and Ryan Potter (Beast Boy) round out the longest-tenured Titans, representing most of the classic lineup from the hit Marv Wolfman 1980’s run.

Each progressive season of Titans has been better received by fans and critics, with season 3 scoring an elusive 100% fresh from Rotten Tomatoes. The main cast has been accepted by notoriously hard to please comic book fans, with Brenton Thwaite joining The Flash’s Grant Gustin as the actors that fans most want to reprise their roles in the DCU. Under the supervision of Zach Snyder, as mentioned during the beginning of Superman vs. Batman: Dawn of Justice, Joker and Harley Quinn had killed a Robin, which was supposed to be Dick Grayson, the first Robin.

Now that Snyder has been replaced, the possibility exists that Brenton Thwaite can portray the main universe Dick Grayson, either as Robin or as Nightwing. Titans, in the grand DC multiverse, takes place on Earth-9, though with the changes coming to the DCU, it is unknown what elements will survive the transition to the new creative team. Rumors are currently running rampant that original Justice League actors, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot may not even be coming back to the DCU.

No matter what the future holds for the DCU, Brenton Thwaite is ready, willing, and able to continue playing Dick Grayson on the big screen. At the moment, Titans is airing its fourth season, with no official announcement on a renewal. Given the current cancellation spree taking place at Warner Bros. Discovery, fans of the show have reason to worry for the future.
