We know what Brandy Norwood (known by her stage name as Brandy) has been up to this summer – getting cast in the new Max and Sam Eggers film The Front Room. That’s right, the singer and film star will be returning to the big screen in the duo’s upcoming A24-backed psychological horror flick. The “The Boy Is Mine” singer will star in the feature that will center around a newly pregnant couple who find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place when they’re forced to take care of a stepmother struggling with her health. Not having had a relationship with the matriarch for years, things quickly become deadly for the couple who end up surprised by who their family member has become.

The Front Room is an adaptation of Susan Hill’s short story of the same name. The Brandy-led film will act as a feature debut for the brothers, who are the younger siblings of Robert Eggers (The Witch, Lighthouse). Max teamed up with Robert to pen The Lighthouse, a mysterious thriller that starred Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. Meanwhile, Sam served as a production assistant for Robert’s spooky and mind-bending feature The Witch. Sam also has writing and editing credits for the Olympia Dukakis documentary, Olympia

A face that you couldn’t escape during the decade of the ‘90s, Brandy was the princess of all things TV, film, and music. After making her breakthrough television debut on the ABC sitcom Thea, the performer was cast to lead UPN’s six-season running show, Moesha, as the titular character. Talent recognized talent when in 1997, the legendary, late Whitney Houston picked Brandy to appear as the eponymous character in the televised version of Cinderella. One of the most talked about and influential productions of the ‘90s, Cinderella will soon receive a 25th Anniversary Special courtesy of Hulu and ABC. While we lost the unforgettable Whitney Houston, the special will feature leading cast members including Brandy, Whoopi Goldberg, Paolo Montalban, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, and Veanne Cox.

Preparing her best for her leading role in The Front Room, 1998 saw Brandy holding down a supporting role in Danny Cannon’s slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. In it, she joined a cast that featured fellow ‘90s superstars: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Muse Watson, Mekhi Phifer, and Jack Black. Since then, the actress has genre-hopped her way through the years appearing in projects including Osmosis Jones and, most recently, Queens. On the reality programming side, the multi-hyphenated entertainer has worked on The Voice and shared the stage with her famous brother Ray J on Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business. She’s also appeared in several U.S. productions of Broadway’s Chicago.

Brandy will be joined on the call sheet for The Front Room by an incredibly talented cast including Kathryn Hunter, Andrew Burnap, and Neal Huff. As of right now, no release date or further information has been released surrounding what’s shaping up to be another incredible A24 production.
