No matter how hard Ben Affleck tries to get out of the superhero movie game, it seems like it inevitably draws him back in. According to our trusted and proven sources, Ben Affleck will be reprising the role of Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars event film. This will make it the first time Affleck has portrayed the character since a cameo in 2005’s Jennifer Garner film Elektra, which ended up being cut from the film and reduced to a DVD extra.

Ben Affleck joining Secret Wars will return him to a role he first performed in the early 2000s wave of pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe films based on Marvel Comics characters. In general, those films have been retroactively characterized into a group of influential, still-beloved movies like X-Men, X2: X-Men United, and Blade, and another less-loved group including two Fantastic Four movies, Ghost Rider, and Affleck’s own Daredevil. While Daredevil is not exactly considered the nadir of the genre, it is not a highlight, either.

However, we ourselves have made the argument that Ben Affleck’s version of Daredevil was unfairly lambasted both then and now, so maybe Secret Wars could be something of a minor reclamation project. It can also be expected that Ben Affleck’s role in Secret Wars might be a quick and simple cameo rather than a full-blown supporting role, so we might just get to see him pop up for a moment of nostalgia.

Charlie Cox as Daredevil

Charlie Cox currently plays the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Matt Murdock, which he first began on the titular Netflix show (which was always a little vague on how in-continuity it was) and has since been ported over to the MCU proper via She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Marvel Studios has been heavily leaning into the Multiverse concept in its most recent phases, with movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania being anchored by the central concept of having multiple variants of the same characters around.

As such, it seems likely that we will see Ben Affleck and Charlie Cox encounter each other as parallel Matt Murdocks in Secret Wars, even if just for a moment. As we have been regularly reporting, it seems that Marvel Studios is eager to bring every single actor that has appeared in a Marvel-adjacent movie in the last several decades.

Ben Affleck will be joined in Secret Wars by former Marvel stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Michael B. Jordan, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Famke Janssen, Ian McKellen, Kirsten Dunst, Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Josh Brolin, and the entire cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While some of those actors are apparently still in negotiations with Marvel Studios to appear in the climax of the Multiverse Saga in 2026, it is clear that all the stops are being pulled.

Currently, Ben Affleck will appear in an entirely different multiversal crossover movie in the DC Universe’s The Flash as one of several Batmen. He just can’t seem to quit superhero movies.
