Beavis & Butt-Head

Paramount+ seems to be aiming to garner some higher-level content as they have recently signed a deal to release four South Park original films. Two have already been released. Now they have achieved partnering with Mike Judge to release a brand-new Beavis & Butt-Head movie. Mike Judge made the announcement and offered fans a glimpse of what he has planned for the former teenage rockers. In this new look, the iconic MTV characters are revealed to be middle-aged. While it’s just a black and white drawing, it’s assumed the characters are likely still making fun of music that isn’t AC/DC, Metallica, and the like.

Mike Judge claims that Beavis & Butt-Head will be returning on the streaming platform with a movie and “more.” Whether or not this is a new series has yet to be revealed. With how the boys look now, it appears they have gotten up to little throughout the years. The fact that Butt-Head’s actual head has gotten that much bigger is fantastic. The new film is allegedly going to be the push-off point for a rebooted series that has been ordered by Comedy Central. The new series was ordered for two seasons back in 2020. It sounds like this new information from Mike Judge may have changed those plans some.

Beavis & Butt-Head was one of the most popular series when it premiered on MTV in 1993. The series ran to 1997. The Paramount+ film will be the second, as Beavis & Butt-Head: Do America came out in 1996. The series also had a one-season revival back in 2011. Now Mike Judge is bringing them back for a minimum of two seasons, if the old report still holds true, and a movie. The fact that he claims there is “more” through the Tweet, it could be that the series will now be moved to Paramount+, but this is just speculation. The film was revealed as part of a ViacomCBS Showcase for Paramount+ in February of 2021.

Hopefully, Beavis & Butt-Head are set to make fun of contemporary music. That is one of the elements that led to their high popularity. There are more stringent copyright laws that might prevent the pair from showing current music videos, but hopefully, there can be some workarounds to allow the showing of other artists’ music to still happen. The fact that they are middle-aged might also be hilarious in that they don’t “get” current music. Imagine the two of them commenting or trying to understand EDM and the rave scene. That would be pure comedy.

The new image of the middle-aged Beavis & Butt-Head is the first instance of what fans will be able to see in the upcoming film and possibly the new series, however, there is no current date on when either of them will make their debut. From the crude sketches of the characters, it sounds as if Mike Judge is hard at work but we likely won’t be seeing any further updates until later on this year. Hopefully, we get to see the film sooner rather than later.
