James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water was one of the most anticipated sequels of this decade, and quickly became the highest-grossing film since Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. Now, thanks to a Twitter leak, fans are getting a sneak peek at the highly anticipated Avatar 3.

The leak comes from Twitter user @AkumuHoshi, who posted a string of tweets that allegedly leak a number of pages from the script of Avatar 3. The pages supposedly come from a transcript of a script page caught on video. The Twitter post accompanies an image of the alleged pages being read and notes that along with the image, the video reveals two more pages of the script.

There are certainly some juicy details in these Avatar 3 leaks. One game-changer is that the human Spider is now somehow able to breathe on Pandora’s surface. It is unclear whether he has always had this ability dormant, or if something has changed his ability to breathe the planet’s air.

The Avatar 3 leak references that Sigourney Weaver’s Kiri saved “the boy,” although the boy being referenced is unknown. It is very possible that it could be Spider, and that it was Kiri herself that saved Spider and granted him his newfound ability to breathe Pandora’s air. The leak also shows Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri in an injured state and references “bloodstained bandages,” although the severity and causes of that injury are unknown.

It’s important to note that scripts change early and often, and what’s being shared may not correlate with what actually makes it into the film. Especially with a director like James Cameron, whose works like Titanic and The Terminator were notorious for sprawling budgets, tweaks, and changes throughout the production process, Avatar 3 could turn out drastically different from its initial script.

That being said, filming for Avatar 3 began concurrently with filming for Avatar: The Way of Water, and according to Cameron is mostly done. With this knowledge, depending on when in the process the screenshots of the script are from, the script has been done at least enough to begin filming since 2017.

Avatar 3 has a lot to live up to, as the Avatar franchise is one of the highest-grossing franchises of all time. 2009’s Avatar set the bar incredibly high when it became the highest-grossing film of all time worldwide. Sporting a 7.9 on IMDb and an 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the film was touted for its cinematic splendor using advanced technology, although many critics noted that its basic plot elements were fairly straightforward.

2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water faced an uphill battle with delays in production and release date, causing a larger-than-intended gap between it and its predecessor. With an estimated budget of $350–460 million, the film is one of the most expensive films ever made, but it became the highest-grossing film of 2022, the highest-grossing film of the COVID-19 pandemic era, and the third-highest-grossing film of all time. The Way of Water holds a 7.7 on IMDb and a 76 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cameron’s Avatar 3 will release in 2024, while its sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, are scheduled to be released in 2026 and 2028, respectively. Fans should look out for more leaks and updates for the Avatar films as their release dates creep closer.
