Avatar 2 might have prematurely been labeled as a box office flop, as the anticipated sequel has now coasted right past the $600 million worldwide box office milestone. Everyone had assumed that the movie was going to be making meager gains considering it had a decent first-weekend opening. However, the movie is still doing quite well, and this is also considering how terrible the weather is in certain parts of the United States.

Avatar 2 might be making even more money if a good portion of the country was not dealing with massive snowstorms and terrible weather. Most people want to stay indoors to combat the weather, and the potential dangers that come with driving in snow, rain, and everything else that isn’t sunshine. Still, through yesterday, the movie brought in an additional $37.1 million in international markets, and $14.5 million domestically, leading to a total gross of $661.4 million overall.

Early reports are also indicating that Avatar 2 is going to cross into the $800 million+ area by this Sunday. The surge in international markets is pointing toward the World Cup finally being over, as France is now up on audience viewership of the movie by a whopping 70%. Germany is up by 35% as well, though Italy is down 17% and Brazil by 22%. This news surely bodes well for James Cameron’s lofty ambitions for the movie.

James Cameron has been quite candid about what it would take for the franchise to continue past Avatar 2. In fact, he stated that the movie needs to become the fourth highest-grossing movie to break even on its reported $350 million budget. Currently, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens holds that spot after making $2.066 billion at the box office.

Avatar 2 has only been out for two weeks now, and it has managed to bring in $661.4 million in worldwide box office numbers, which is nothing to scoff at. Most movies begin to have drop-offs, but it could be great timing for the sequel, as families are also getting together for the holidays. Most people have vacation time right now, and Christmas day is usually a big one for the movies.

We would imagine that plenty of people have patiently been waiting to see Avatar 2 so that they could do so with their entire families this weekend. This is just speculation currently, but the movie is still projected to make it to the $800 million mark by this Sunday. The international markets could be slowing down, but domestic markets could see a larger bump as soon as people in areas with terrible weather get a chance to leave their houses.

Avatar 2 is currently in theaters all around the country, and though it has a 3-hour and 12-minute runtime, it appears that more people are beginning to buy into returning to the land of Pandora. The movie stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Vin Diesel, and many more. We are wondering how Weaver and Lang were brought back, considering they both died in the first movie, but we will all have to go see the sequel to find that out.
