Avatar is officially starting its rerelease journey, but to the surprise of many people, this new rerelease comes with some additional footage of Avatar 2. In a move that most people see as James Cameron and the studio trying to secure the #1 most watched theatrical movie spot, Avatar has been remastered in a 4K high dynamic range version and has begun to roll out all over the world. However, it might be worth it to go see the original movie in theaters, if only to see this new footage that is being shown at the end of the rerelease.

Avatar was originally released back in 2009, but it skyrocketed into the highest-grossing movie of all time. This has led many to wonder when James Cameron was going to be releasing more about Avatar 2. That happened four months ago, when the trailer for the sequel film dropped, pulling in a staggering 148.6 million views in a 24-hour period.

Considering everyone was hyped about the Avatar 2 trailer, it stands to reason that James Cameron would want to capitalize on that sheer excitement by releasing the original movie back into theaters. Although the move to release the original movie back in theaters does seem like a money grab, it could also be to catch people up on the movie that might be a bit forgotten. We aren’t saying that people don’t remember Avatar, but a good refresher of the source material never hurt anyone, and now anyone seeing Avatar during the rerelease period is going to be treated to new footage for the sequel.

The remastered version of Avatar has officially been released in Korea, France, China, and Russia. The rerelease is set to hit the United States this Friday, with Spain following on September 30th. Avatar 2 only has one trailer online, but that one trailer has led to millions of people tuning in to see where Cameron’s story is going to head next, and now more footage is part of the rerelease.

This is some smart marketing for Avatar 2, not that the sequel movie needs that much marketing. The highest-grossing movie is a record that strongly indicates anything related to the Avatar world is going to be massively popular. Cameron also revealed his plans to release several sequels every two years.

Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 are set to release in 2022, 2024, 2026, and 2028. The franchise is likely to grow past that, but Cameron is said to be fully involved in the next three movies at least. For those who cannot wait until December of this year to see the sequel, you can go watch the rerelease in heaters right now to see this brand-new footage being shown at the end of the Avatar rerelease.

For those who can be a bit more patient, Avatar 2 is set to release in theaters on December 16, 2022. The movie follows the life of Jake Sully, who now has a family and must do everything he can to protect them. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Giovani Ribisi are returning cast from the original movie.
