There appears to be no slowing down the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and A-list actors are getting snatched up left and right for roles in upcoming phases. According to our trusted and proven sources, the Running Man himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is in talks for a role as a Marvel villain. While we do not yet have confirmation as to who he might be playing, we can and will speculate about who the Austrian Oak could be playing in the MCU. Our thought? Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Marvel villain Titanium Man

Marvel Comics’ Titanium Man

Marvel Studios President/King of the World Kevin Feige largely plays the MCU cards pretty close to his chest and there are few details available on some of the announced upcoming projects. One of those projects is the Disney+ series Armor Wars, which will star Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes aka War Machine. We speculate that Arnold Schwarzenegger could be playing one of Marvel Comics’ most notorious armored villains, the former KGB agent turned technological behemoth Titanium Man.

Armor Wars has already been described as an adaptation of the late 1980s Iron Man story arc in which Tony Stark’s technology is stolen and used for nefarious purposes. Since Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man is deceased within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems the task of investigating the lost tech and retrieving it will fall to Don Cheadle. Given that the War Machine of the MCU has also taken on the role of the USA-branded Iron Patriot, it would make sense to have him come up against Arnold Schwarzenegger as one Marvel’s most anti-American characters, given the two nations’ historically adversarial relationship.

This would also not be the first time that Arnold Schwarzenegger has played a Russian KGB agent, so it is not like Marvel Studios would be asking something exactly new of him. It would also be entirely possible to rewrite the background of Titanium Man to make it slightly more appropriate to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Austrian origins. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has made far more drastic changes to an Iron Man villain (cough, cough, the Mandarin) than that; perhaps the Arnold Schwarzenegger version of Marvel’s Titanium Man could be from the Cold War-era of divided Germany.

If Arnold Schwarzenegger does manage to strike a deal with Marvel Studios, it would be his entry back into the big leagues after several years of semi-retirement. Schwarzenegger has not appeared in a live-action movie since 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate (the sad box office grosses of which might have finally killed the franchise), and even for a star as legendary as him, Marvel is a big deal. Titanium Man has generally been portrayed as being a hulking, enormous figure who towers over Iron Man, so Schwarzenegger’s famously large size could be ideal for the character. In addition, and we say this respectfully, Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting up there in years and having an armored character that would primarily be CGI (presumably) would make it easy on the stunt work. We shall just have to wait and see where Arnold Schwarzenegger does pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to threaten people.
