Actress Anya Taylor-Joy’s breakthrough project is finding new life on streaming. According to FlixPatrol, the 2015 horror film The Witch is in the Top 10 of HBO Max hits of the week. The Witch was the directorial debut of Robert Eggers, who directed 2022’s The Northman.

The Witch debuted at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film was a critical and financial success, grossing $40 million at the box office against a production budget of roughly $4 million. Anya Taylor-Joy earned multiple awards for her role as Thomasin.

Eggers was inspired by his childhood fantasy of witches and frequent visits to the Plimoth Plantation when he was a schoolboy. He initially wanted to shoot the project on location in New England, but due to the lack of tax incentives, he settled with Canada. Before her starring role in the Eggers film, Anya Taylor-Joy worked on the 2014 horror comedy Vampire Academy.

Needless to say, Anya Taylor-Joy’s collaboration with Eggers paid off. She later appeared in Luke Scott’s science fiction horror film Morgan. Afterward, the actress landed a role in the M. Night Shyamalan picture Split alongside X-Men actor James McAvoy.

The actress’s stock has been rising year after year, it seems. We reported through our trusted and proven sources that Anya Taylor-Joy was eyed to join Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise over at Warner Bros. Discovery. While there has yet to be any concrete proof of her joining the franchise, she would make a stunning and fabulous addition.

Despite not being confirmed to partake in Matt Reeves’ comic book franchise, Anya Taylor-Joy is soon set to star in a major blockbuster film with the prequel to Mad Max Fury Road. Taylor-Joy will take over Charlize Theron’s role as Furiosa and star alongside The Almighty Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth. Photos from the set have shown the actress covered in dirt and grease.

In early January 2022, Anya Taylor-Joy showed off a risky stunt she performed on set through her Instagram. The actress is spinning a car toward the camera right before it can hit any safety cones. Clearly, this means Taylor-Joy is committed to doing her own stunts(maybe.)

In addition to her role in the upcoming Mad Max: Furry Road prequel, Anya Taylor-Joy will also be running from a crazed chef in a project called The Menu. Interestingly, the film also stars Mad Max: Furry Road star Nicholas Hoult. The film is set to release on November 18th through Searchlight Pictures.

While the actress has appeared in many genres, she’s probably most known for her work in horror. With the success of The Witch and Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho, Anya Taylor-Joy is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s newest scream queens. In Last Night in Soho, Taylor-Joy plays a hopeful young singer in the 1960s named Sandie, who is brought into the dangerous, seductive world of dance and performance.

After Last Night in Soho, Anya Taylor-Joy reteamed with her Eggers to star in his follow-up project, The Northman. During her interview with Vogue(via SlashFilm), the actress admitted that Eggers would put the performers and crew on set through the wringer. However, it didn’t seem to have fazed Taylor-Joy, who said she enjoyed shooting the project outdoors even though it was freezing cold.

The Northman didn’t have the same box office success as Anya Taylor-Joy’s first collaboration with Eggers. Despite receiving critical praise, the film only managed to bring in $69.6 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget between $70 and $90 million. The film is centered on a Viking prince who sets out on a journey to avenge the death of his father. In addition to Taylor-Joy, the film starred Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, and Alexander Skarsgard in the leading role.

It’s unclear why The Northman didn’t have quite the same box office success as Anya Taylor-Joy and Egger’s first collaboration in The Witch. Eggers is set to direct a project called Nosferatu, so at least he will continue to tell engaging stories in Hollywood. Taylor-Joy’s star continues to shine bright in an industry full of many. Fans of hers can next see the actress in director David O. Russell’s Amsterdam opposite Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington.
