Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins is heading to space! Not literally, although that would be awesome, but this news is second best. Today, Deadline revealed that the revered actor nabbed a role in filmmaker Zack Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi adventure Netflix flick, Rebel Moon. The film will find Hopkins and the other characters soaring through the cosmos as they tell the story of a galaxy torn apart by war. Focusing on a settled and pacifistic colony in the deepest reaches of space, Rebel Moon will focus on how this small, but mighty community found themselves under attack by the terrible and feared Regent Balisarius and the young woman (Sofia Boutella) sent on a mission to save them all. The brave woman’s undertaking is to plead the colony’s case to others in the galaxy so that they might fight alongside the threatened people and shut down Balisarius once and for all. Hopkins will use his stand-out voice in the role of Jimmy, a battle robot whose loyalties once lay with the now-deceased King.

Anthony Hopkins’ addition to the film comes after a long line of other casting announcements. Rebel Moon will also feature the talents of Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair. With such a giant cast, we can expect more news shortly surrounding exactly who they’ll all be playing.

A celebrated name in the world of acting, Anthony Hopkins’ credits are longer than a CVS receipt. Most recently, he nabbed his second Academy Award win for his featured role in Florian Zeller’s drama, The Father. In the heartbreaking film, which was led by an all-star cast including Olivia Colman, Mark Gatiss, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell, and Olivia Williams, Hopkins starred as a man suffering from dementia. With a long list of projects in his queue, Hopkins will next star in a coming-of-age piece by James Gray titled Armageddon Time. A star-studded event, the Cannes Film Festival breakthrough hit also features Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Jeremy Strong, Robert De Niro, Oscar Isaac, and Cate Blanchett.

But wait, there’s more. Anthony Hopkins has also signed on to take front and center in a thriller coming from Rick Dugdale titled Zero Contact which will be centered around the theme of time travel. He’ll work with Zeller again in a drama titled The Son which will feature yet another top-billed cast that includes the likes of Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby, and Zen McGrath. Finally, Hopkins will take on the role of one of the most famous names in therapy, Sigmund Freud. The Matt Brown-directed flick will see Hopkins starring as the father of psychoanalysis who developed some of the same techniques used in present-day therapy.

From romance to dramas to comedies, and even sci-fi pieces, is there anything Anthony Hopkins can’t do? We don’t think so. With the announcement of the actor’s addition to the Zack Snyder project, it gives the production one more upper hand in viewership.
