If you have ever wondered what Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway would look like as Star Trek’s Counselor Deanna Troi, look no further. With the aid of artificial intelligence, the official Giant Freakin Robot Instagram account has produced several concepts of what the actress could look like as The Next Generation character. In these pictures, Anne Hathaway takes over the role from Marina Sirtis, which is an interesting possibility for the reported recasting of The Next Generation.

In the first image, Anne Hathaway is wearing a pale blue bodysuit that Troi frequently wore in Star Trek and appears to be seated at her frequent post to the stage-left of the captain’s chair on the deck of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The next picture sees Anne Hathaway in a more dynamic pose, now wearing the iconic purple and lavender body suit that Troi wore for the first several seasons of Star Trek. Finally, the third sees the actress in a very similar pose, but with her face angled slightly differently.

Marina Sirtis was part of the original cast of The Next Generation and portrayed the half-human, half-Betazoid ship’s counselor for the entirety of the run of the series. Originally, the role was envisioned by series creator Gene Roddenberry as “eye candy” for the series and was primarily intended to be used for sex appeal, hence the form-fitting, low-cut bodysuits rather than a regular Starfleet uniform. While Anne Hathaway has never shied away from a sexy outfit, it feels likely that she would have a different take on the Star Trek character.

We recently reported an exclusive clip that The Next Generation would be recast and rebooted, which would definitely be one way to get Anne Hathway into the Star Trek franchise. At the moment, the film future of the series seems very much up in the air, with little movement on Star Trek 4 in the last several years, and multiple members of the cast having gone on to incredible success with other series, like, for example, starring in the highest number of billion dollar-grossing movies of any other actor.

But even though the film series is currently stalled, that does not mean that there is no way to get Anne Hathaway aboard Star Trek. The existence of the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies is due to some careful continuity manipulation, with the Chris Pine series of films being officially dubbed the parallel “Kelvin” timeline. Given that every other major franchise seems to be dealing with an expanding Multiverse these days, why not Star Trek?

All that said, Anne Hathaway is a very busy and acclaimed actress, which makes the possibility of her portraying Star Trek’s most empathetic (and empathic) counselor a bit of a long shot. Hathaway currently has five different movies in various stages of production (per IMDb), including the upcoming Sesame Street feature film. But given that she is willing to co-star in a movie with Oscar the Grouch, maybe Paramount really could get her aboard a starship.
