Anna Paquin will return as the mutant superhero Rogue in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Deadpool 3. According to our trusted and proven sources, the True Blood actress will portray Rogue (aka Marie D’Ancanto in this continuity) for the first time since 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, in which she briefly appeared in a cameo. Anna Paquin is one of the original stars of the 2000 X-Men movie, which makes her showing up in Deadpool 3 one of Ryan Reynolds’ prime priorities.

The plot of the latest movie starring Wade Wilson is still tightly under wraps, so we can only speculate exactly what Anne Paquin’s role in Deadpool 3 will be. It seems probable that Anna Paquin’s appearance in Deadpool 3 will be tied to the return of Hugh Jackman as James Howlett aka Logan aka Wolverine; the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise heavily centered around the relationship between the two and it seems likely that Rogue wouldn’t be back without encountering Wolverine once more.

The two shared a close, near-paternal bond that served to give both Anna Paquin’s character courage and Hugh Jackman’s compassion, so we shall have to see whether that kind of storytelling can survive Deadpool 3. Shawn Levy, who is directing the first installment of the Deadpool series to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper, has revealed that the movie is going to be very much in the spirit of the first two, which is to say, profane, irreverent, and violent.

Disney is seeing fit to allow the film to be the first R-rated MCU movie, so it will be interesting to see if the characterization of established roles like Anna Paquin’s is changed to suit the tone of Deadpool 3. It seems likely that Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy will probably attempt to mine humor out of the straight-laced X-Men characters interacting with the zany assassin named Deadpool and his tendency to say the darndest things. As such, we might be seeing very much the same Rogue this time around.

Aside from Anna Paquin and Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds seems hellbent on getting as many X-Men actors as possible for Deadpool 3. We previously reported that James Marsden (who played team leader Scott Summers aka Cyclops) and Halle Berry (who played Ororo Munroe aka Storm) are being pursued to appear in the film, as is Patrick Stewart. Of all the 20th Century Fox X-Men actors, only Stewart has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, in a brief appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In addition to Anna Paquin and the rest of the X-Men crew, Deadpool 3 is reportedly going to star incoming Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors, Tom Hiddleston as fan-favorite Norse God of Mischief Loki, and Seth Green as Marvel comedy relief Howard the Duck. Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024, taking over the slot that the upcoming Fantastic Four movie once held.
