Anna Kendrick Keeps Forgetting One Of Her Biggest Roles
Anna Kendrick is one of the most popular actors in the world, someone who has appeared in many acclaimed roles and won herself a legion of fans. She’s been in so many films, in fact, that she actually completely forgot about appearing in one of the biggest movies of all time. Specifically, Anna Kendrick keeps forgetting that she starred in Twilight, the vampy soap opera that influenced an entire generation of scene kids.
Anna Kendrick Was In Twilight
The first time this came up was when Anna Kendrick wrote a rather infamous post on X (formerly Twitter) where she said, “Holy sh*t. I just remembered I was in Twilight.” This understandably led to fans asking if she was serious about forgetting that she was in one of the biggest genre franchises of all time or not. She clarified on the podcast that while she “didn’t forget the experience of making the movies,” it became easier for her to forget starring in this fang fest as Twilight took on a life of its own.
If you need a little refresher, Anna Kendrick starred in all four of the Twilight films, playing the human character Jessica Stanley. How, exactly, does somebody forget starring in not just one but four different movies of the same franchise? According to the Pitch Perfect star, it all started because the movies “took on such a life of their own and they were such a kind of, for better or for worse, a kind of touchstone.”
That touchstone status made the films feel a bit more abstract, and Anna Kendrick noted that they became “such a reference that everybody would talk about trying to find the next Twilight or whatever.” This led to some surreal conversations she would have with Hollywood bigwigs who would tell her, “’Oh, yeah. I’ve heard that there’s a book series that just got optioned that we maybe wanna try and make it the next Twilight.”’ During those talks, she would belatedly remember, “Oh my god, I’m in that.”
Stayed Out Of The Public Eye
Another potential reason her memory is hazy is something that she is now very grateful for: the fact that she wasn’t the focus of intense fan and media scrutiny like the franchise’s main stars. Anna Kendrick said, “I was really lucky to not be dealing with the eye of the storm” when it came to Twilight superfans dissecting her every move or negatively comparing her to her book character.
She claims that actors playing supernatural characters couldn’t so much as leave their hotel room, even if they only had a single line; as for Kendrick, “I just didn’t have to deal with any of that.”
Anna Kendrick compared herself to Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, noting how the movies made them into household names and that they had to deal with mobs of passionate Twilight fans. In retrospect, she appreciated that she didn’t have to “run the gauntlet” they did and could simply focus on showing up and delivering her lines. Certainly, things worked out for her: while Pattinson might be making headlines for his Batman movies, Kendrick has proven herself to be a bankable movie star who also made her directorial debut last year with Woman of the Hour.
Confession time: we initially shared the skepticism of other Anna Kendrick fans that she could have forgotten starring in Twilight, but the context she gave makes these frequent bouts of selective memory loss more understandable. It’s hard to think of yourself as intimately involved in a franchise once it takes on a sprawling life of its own, and even harder when you were largely on the outside of the fervor over these films.
Kendrick now seems grateful that she could simply show up, do her job, and go home, and this mentality towards labor is just one more reason she continues to be Hollywood’s greatest girl next door.
