See Angelina Jolie’s Return To Action Movies In Those Who Wish Me Dead Trailer

Angelina Jolie is making her return to the action movie genre and by all accounts, the film looks to be hot.

Those Who Wish Me Dead stars Angelina Jolie as Hannah Faber, a firefighting smokejumper who is reeling and trying to deal with the loss of the three lives she failed to save from a forest fire. She finds temporary sanctuary in a fire tower; a position Hannah hopes will help heal her from the trauma. Sanctuary is short-lived when Hannah comes across a 12-year-old boy Connor (played by Australian actor Finn Little) who looks to be in a lot of trouble. He has nowhere to turn so he turns to Hannah. He has just witnessed the murder of his father and the bad men who committed the horrific act now wish to silence the boy.

Perhaps the main thing one needs to know about Those Who Wish Me Dead, besides the fact that Angelina Jolie is returning to the action movie genre, is that Taylor Sheridan directed the movie while also lent his pen as co-writer. Sheridan, who is quite familiar with the western motif, has made a big name for himself as a writer with pictures like Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. He is best known, though, from the hit series Yellowstone, which he co-created with John Linson.

Those Who Wish Me Dead also boasts a cast that includes Jon Bernthal, Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, Jake Weber, Aiden Gillen, and Medina Senghore. The movie is based on the novel of the same name which was written by Michael Koryta, who also has a writing credit for the screenplay.

This new film marks a welcome (we think) return to action movies for Angelina Jolie. After winning her Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted, Jolie went on to star in action films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its follow-up Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. She also starred in the hit actioner Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt, Wanted, and Salt. Since that time, Jolie has appeared in a few notable movies that include Disney’s Maleficent and its sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

This will be a big collaboration between Angelina Jolie and Taylor Sheridan, who has become something of a creative factory. Not only has the prolific writer penned the abovementioned films and series, but he recently signed a huge deal with ViacomCBS that covers multiple projects which also include at least a fourth season of Yellowstone. Sheridan just completed Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, set to premiere on Prime Video on April 30, 2021, and has a few more projects loaded to go. These include the Yellowstone prequel series Y: 1883 which tells the story of how the Dutton Family found their way to Yellowstone, and two more series, Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown. He is also working on the feature film Fast.

Angelina Jolie looks to continue down the action path when she joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe appearing in Marvel’s Eternals. Jolie plays Thena, one of the immortal beings who have helped shape Earth over the centuries and now must come back together to protect humanity from the Deviants, their evil counterpart.
