A month ago, we brought you the exclusive scoop that Andrew Garfield would be swapping his Spider-Man suit for bolts in his neck and become Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix adaptation. Now, Deadline has confirmed our report, saying the Hollywood trade’s sources are claiming the same as ours here at Giant Freakin Robot. While we reported that Oscar Isaac has been cast as Dr. Frankenstein, Deadline added that Mia Goth is also set to join the cast.

In our report, we expressed how it made sense for Andrew Garfield and Guillermo del Toro to team up on the Mary Shelley horror adaptation since Netflix is backing the Frankenstein remake. The streaming platform has played a pivotal role in Garfield’s acting career, breaking him away from the branding of the Amazing Spider-Man and casting him in the critically acclaimed role of Jonathan Larsen in the musical bio-pic of the Rent writer, tick, tick…BOOM!. As for del Toro, the auteur’s last two projects have been with Netflix—Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities anthology series and the Academy Award-winning stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio.

It made sense that Netflix would team up Andrew Garfield and Guillermo del Toro on the Frankenstein project since the two are some of the streaming platforms’ biggest players. Apparently, del Toro agreed with the sentiment because the filmmaker has allegedly been in talks with Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth, all of whom have reportedly said yes to being in the film. In addition to directing the feature, del Toro will also write the script.

According to Deadline, the Shape of Water filmmaker is still working on the script, and no formal offers have been sent to Andrew Garfield or the other actors yet, even though they are all on board for the Frankenstein project. Del Toro has been talking about making a Frankenstein adaptation for nearly ten years, and since the director has a bit of a reputation for not bringing projects to fruition, we’re honestly a little surprised it’s finally happening. At this time, no clues have been given about what del Toro plans for the script, so it’s anyone’s guess on whether it will be a direct adaptation of Shelley’s book or if he’ll twist it around a bit and turn it into a modern horror tale.

While Deadline didn’t report on who each actor would be playing, our sources say that Andrew Garfield will play the classic Frankenstein’s monster, while Oscar Isaac is set to play the mad doctor who created him. It is assumed that Mia Goth will play Dr. Frankenstein’s love interest. Goth has already begun to create a name for herself in the horror genre, having appeared in three critically acclaimed performances in X, its prequel Pearl, and the horror mystery Infinity Pool

Oscar Isaac is also a critically acclaimed actor, having received an Emmy nomination for his work in HBO’s Scenes from a Marriage. He has also gathered a tight-knit fan base for his appearance in the Marvel limited series Moon Knight

Andrew Garfield is also keeping up with his award nominations while waiting to start on the new Frankenstein project. He was nominated for an Emmy and SAG awards for his portrayal of Detective Jeb Pyre in Under the Banner of Heaven. Garfield is currently working on a biopic where he will play the controversial billionaire Richard Branson in the film Hot Air, and he is set to work with Lady Macbeth actress Florence Pugh in StudioCanal’s We Live In Time
