Amber Heard

Amber Heard continues to be the center of controversy after all the drama that has transpired between her and her ex-husband Johhny Depp. A petition asking for her removal from Aquaman 2 is inching ever closer to 2 million signatures. And now, there is the possibility that she is going to be sidelined in the upcoming superhero sequel.

Grace Randolph is claiming that actress Jodie Comer has spoken with DC about appearing in Aquaman 2 and would be a central character. This would effectively help to distance the amount of focus Amber Heard would receive in the film. The alleged interest in Comer is due to her inclusion in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds film Free Guy. Randolph does not speculate what character she would be playing, but she goes on to say that director James Wan supposedly wants an Asian actress for the part. These two bits of info has led to speculation that the character could be Dolphin.

It should be said that Grace Randolph does not have the greatest reputation when it comes to these kinds of scoops and has even been called out by directors in the past. this includes Aquaman director James Wan. So this news about Amber Heard being pushed to the side in favor of another actress should be taken with more than a few grains of salt.

Still, it is hard to argue that Amber Heard is not the center of a lot of negative feelings. And as the legal battle between her and Johnny Depp continues to rage on in the courts, it is likely that she will continue to be the focus of tabloid rumors and derision. It will be interesting to see how the conversation surrounding her picks up again when she inevitably makes her debut in the CBS All-Access adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand (read our review) as the complicated character Nadine Cross.

Aquaman 2 is still in the works and has yet to receive the official greenlight from Warner Bros. as of this writing. It is almost a given that the sequel will get made, but will Amber Heard be as prominent a player when the cameras finally start rolling? It is possible that the studio is waiting to see how the narrative around her legal battles shakes out, and if public perception manages to sway in her favor. If it does, she may end up as much of a lead character as she was in the first film.

But, if the story around Amber Heard develops into something that paints her in a more negative light, then Warner Bros. might have to change their tune. As of now, it looks like they are backing her up. If things stay the way they are, it doesn’t sound like she will be getting any diminished screen time in Aquaman 2. But sentiments around celebrities can change at the drop of a hat. We will simply have to wait and see if Amber Heard is able to stay in the studio’s good graces, or if they come to believe she is more of a liability than an asset.
