For a while, it was unclear whether Amber Heard would be part of the big future plans for the DC Extended Universe. Depending on the day of the week it seemed like she was either becoming their next star or being completely replaced. It does now look much more like the former though and that’s clearly the way Heard sees it these days. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Amber Heard is working out and getting in shape with the goal of becoming a massive action star much in the way of Gal Gadot.

If Amber Heard sees a possible career trajectory similar to Gal Gadot then she has her work cut out for her, but it’s not off the table. She’s had action movies along the way, but is likely targeting a bigger solo franchise in DC first and then parlaying that into roles that would more fit the action lead billing. That’s how Gadot has done things with her Wonder Woman character, but she’s now also headlining other huge productions over the next few years.

Things should start trending in this direction for Amber Heard when she’s finally up on the big screen again as Queen Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The highly-anticipated sequel for the franchise is just entering pre-production. The film saw numerous delays because of the pandemic but not looks like it’s on the right track. There had been rumors that Amber Heard was set to have a much bigger role in this movie, likely more central to the overall story. It could end up being a conflict between Atlantis and the city of Necrus, another underwater society with similar powers but also a ton of secrets. If there was a bigger battle lining up then Mera would likely be key to the action.

And this is coming off Amber Heard having a somewhat expanded role in the latest DC offering Zack Snyder’s Justice League. When the director took back the film, adding a ton more time onto the original, one of the folks who benefited was Heard who had an increased presence and was also still around when Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne was having his Knightmare visions of the future.

This latest rumor from Richtman about Amber Heard and her Hollywood intentions comes about a week after he leaked that the actress was on the verge of signing a massive deal with Warner Bros. If that was the case, the idea could be that there would be additional franchise-building around the actress and a goal of going this action star route. In this way, things are lining up for her to take a massive career uptick in the not-too-distant future.

Amber Heard certainly wants to signal that the action route is the way she wants to go as well. She’s posted numerous workout pictures over the last couple of months, most of them referring to her getting ready for the Aquaman sequel.

It looks like the controversy surrounding Amber Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp that came up about a year ago is starting to subside. With the details of Depp’s highly-publicized court case undoing his standing in Hollywood, it hasn’t had the same effect for Heard. While originally speculated that she would be removed from the DC franchise, that hasn’t been the case at all. And now she appears set for even bigger things.
