In 2020, Al Pacino starred in his first major television series with Amazon Studios’ Hunters, in which he leads a group that tracks down and kills escaped Nazis living in 1970s New York City. Pacino is back with series lead Logan Lerman for the second and final season of Hunters, and this time, the bounty is bigger than ever. The new trailer reveals that the Hunters are now going after Hitler himself.

There has long been a conspiracy theory claiming that Adolf Hitler escaped to Argentina at the end of WWII and lived out the remainder of his days in hiding. This theory has been explored several times, including in the History Channel’s documentary series Hunting Hitler. The theory, though never proven, does possess a degree of feasibility, and Al Pacino and company are on the case in the second season of Hunters.

After thwarting a rising Fourth Reich based in New York City in the first season, the new trailer shows Al Pacino commissioning Logan Lerman with the task of hunting down the Third Reich’s escaped leader. The task sends Lerman to gather the other Hunters for another round of Nazi killing, this time taking the crew to South America. The second season looks to be full of conspiracy, explosions, fights to the death, and the employment of the Hunters’ unique skills throughout the course of finding Hitler.

In addition to Al Pacino and a long-haired Logan Lerman, the second season sees the return of Hunters stars Lena Olin, Jerrika Hinton, Carol Kane, Josh Radnor, Tiffany Boone, Kate Mulvany, and Louis Owaza. This season also features series newcomer Jennifer Jason Leigh, best known for her role in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, as Chava Apfelbaum who, according to the trailer, has been hunting Hitler for decades.

The show was created by David Weil, a Jewish filmmaker who was inspired by the stories of his grandparents’ survival in WWII concentration camps. Weil set out to combat antisemitism and racism by telling a story that put Jewish characters in superhero-esque roles. While he acknowledges that great films about Jewish perseverance (Schindler’s List) and revenge (Inglourious Basterds) have been made, it was important to him to put Jewish characters, like those of Al Pacino and Logan Lerman, at the center of Hunters as opposed to them having supporting or ancillary roles.

Al Pacino, in addition to the upcoming season of Hunters, will appear alongside Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton in the film Billy Knight, as well as the thriller Knox Goes Away from director Michael Keaton. And though his days as Percy Jackson are long gone as Disney looks to reboot that series, Logan Lerman still has a packed slate ahead of him, including a TV miniseries called We Were the Lucky Ones about a Jewish family separated during WWII fighting to find each other in the fallout of the war.

Al Pacino and Logan Lerman will reunite to take down one of history’s most villainous figures when the second and final season of Hunters premieres January 13, 2023 on Amazon Prime Video.
