Adam Sander says his upcoming movie with the Safdie Brothers will be delayed. Speaking to Collider, the actor explained that the initial filming schedule was thwarted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes as filming needed to take place during live baseball.
Since the 2023 MLB season is over, the project will have to wait until the March 2024 season.
Baseball Strike Was The Cause
We kind of missed the opportunity of baseball season because of the strike,” Adam Sandler explained.
“A lot of it was gonna be shot during live baseball. So it’s gonna take a minute. We’re figuring it all out right now. I’m not sure when it’s gonna happen,” he added.
The yet-to-be-titled project is set to be directed by Josh Safdie, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Benny Safdie. This marks Josh Safdie’s second solo directorial feature.
Before gaining recognition for their work on Good Time and Uncut Gems, which also starred Adam Sandler, Josh Safdie made his directorial debut in the 2008 film The Pleasure of Being Robbed.
Set To Have A Huge Cast
In addition to Adam Sandler, the now-delayed film will reportedly feature a star-studded cast, including Ben Affleck, Megan Thee Stallion, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Steve Harvey.
The story is rumored to be set in the 1990s world of high-end sportscard collecting. It follows a retired baseball pitcher attempting a comeback while a sports memorabilia agent seeks to capitalize on his success.
