From an acting standpoint, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren has been one of the best additions ever for the Star Wars franchise. He brought such a pained menace to the three films as the troubled Ben Solo/ Kylo Ren and ultimately did find redemption in the character before it was all said and done. Though the sequel trilogy’s storylines were a bit up and down (an understatement) the problems never lay with what Driver brought to the character. And he’s opened up recently about whether he would return to the Star Wars franchise in any capacity. He said he would be up for coming back into the fold, but did say there was at least one condition that needed to be in place before he did so.

While talking with UNILAD (via ScreenRant), Adam Driver discussed the possibility of returning as Kylo Ren at some point. He admitted that he would do it, but said that the franchise would need to ensure a great director (or directors) was in place to make it happen. Driver, who appears to take his craft as seriously as anyone in the industry, said that it isn’t the size or scope of a movie that is appealing, but rather whose vision is making it happen. Adam Driver said in the interview:

“No, I’m totally not against it. For me, it’s a filmmaker’s medium, so my only thing is working with great filmmakers. Whatever the size… it’s never been interesting to me, to an extent. There’s interesting things about working on both. I always just follow people I’d be interested in working with, and whether I’d be right for the part – things like that. No, definitely not averse.”

Adam Driver has taken part in all manner of films throughout his relatively short, but incredibly successful career. Playing Kylo Ren in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens was one of his first, truly major roles though he was quickly becoming known as one of the most talented actors working in Hollywood. Roles in HBO’s Girls, plus parts in This is Where I Leave You, and Lincoln as well as an award-winning turn in Hungry Hearts set the stage for him to hit big with one of the biggest franchises out there.

And though Adam Driver has gone on to do a number of successful movies since with a career defined by his overwhelming talent and not just a part in Star Wars, it’s encouraging to know that he would be willing to return. Now, does it matter that Kylo Ren died at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? Of course not. This is a franchise that hasn’t had issues reviving people before or even resetting storylines for prequels and other stories. Plus the rules around The Force are such that it wouldn’t be crazy to see his oneness with that power now having him embody the character in some future story. This is all to say, being dead in Star Wars doesn’t mean you are gone forever.

Of course, we are likely a long way off from Adam Driver ever returning to Star Wars. Right now, the future of the franchise when it comes to the movie trilogy isn’t quite known. Any plans are being kept tightly under wraps. There are a host of new series, and some other projects on the way, but none that include Adam Driver. For now, it looks like Kylo Ren isn’t part of the franchise’s future.
