A Forgotten Bruce Willis Action Movie Is Killing On Netflix
Bruce Willis starred in Marauders, a forgotten feature that is tearing up the Netflix charts.
Bruce Willis has effectively stepped away from acting but has left behind a string of more underground and forgotten features that many people have not seen, as most were not big blockbusters that the man was usually involved with. However, one of those underground features is currently killing the streaming charts on Netflix, and that movie is the 2016 action crime movie, Marauders. Marauders might not have been on everyone’s “must watch” list, but it is finding new life on Netflix.
As previously mentioned, many of the more recent Bruce Willis movies had flown completely under the radar, and Marauders was no different, despite starring Willis and fan-favorite actor, Dave Bautista. Marauders currently holds a 24% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even worse 19% audience rating. Although Lionsgate had released the movie back in July of 2016, it would only go on to make a meager $1 million at the box office.
Marauders follows Special Agent Jonathan Montgomery, as he is investigating a string of violent robberies that all seem to be targeting a corrupt CEO named Jeffrey Hubert (Bruce Willis). Agent Montgomery is the head of the robbery-homicide division of the Cincinnati PD. He investigates a robbery that took place at a Hubert National Bank location, where forensics end up finding a bullet that is matched to a dead army ranger by the name of TJ Jackson.
Per reports, Jackson was part of a rogue unit that kidnapped civilian Alexander Hubert for a ransom, and Hubert and Jackson’s unit were killed during that exchange, resulting in Hubert’s only heir (Jeffrey Hubert played by Bruce Willis) now taking control of Hubert International. The only problem is that Jeffrey Hubert is quite corrupt, and items in his safety deposit box have now been taken, proving that he is involved in a potential relationship with Ohio Senator Cook.
Without ruining the rest of the movie, everyone can go watch this Bruce Willis feature on Netflix right now. We understand that the plot of this movie might already sound confusing, and that could be a huge reason why it has a poor rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While we get to see Willis take on a more villainous role, it does not help matters that there is far too much going on with this movie.
Still, even though it happens to be poorly rated, it could be that critics are being a bit too harsh about this Bruce Willis feature. Marauders stars Willis, Dave Bautista, Christopher Meloni, and Adrian Grenier. This is certainly not the worst cast in the world, and it is a shame that the movie was essentially torn to shreds by critics.
Marauders was directed by Steven C. Miller, who has had a string of more underground features, but some that have done well. He famously directed Arsenal, First Kill, Escape Plan 2: Hades, and Line of Duty. Bruce Willis and Miller reunited for First Kill after their time on Marauders.
First Kill stars Bruce Willis and Hayden Christensen, which sees Willis take on the role of Police Chief Howell who is investigating a murder. Christensen portrays Will, a Wall Street broker who witnesses the murder but must now evade the police in exchange for his son’s life. The Miller-led feature holds some of the same types of Rotten Tomatoes scoring.
It is a bit sad that Bruce Willis would have such a huge drop-off in his career, as he was in some huge movies just a few short years earlier than when Marauders came out. Starting in 2012, he was in such good movies as Moonrise Kingdom, The Expendables 2, Looper, A Good Day to Die Hard, RED 2, and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Granted, not all these movies were spectacular, but they were still respectable and entertaining.
Bruce Willis still has a legacy that will last a lifetime, and the man has been part of many iconic movies. Marauders might not be one of his best movies, but it still deserves a watch, especially if you happen to be a fan of the man in general. Marauders is currently streaming on Netflix, and everyone can judge for themselves if the action crime movie deserved such a terrible rating.
