Not only is Taylor Swift a Grammy-winning, platinum-record-making artist, but now she’s a doctor too. Taylor Swift recently accepted an honorary doctorate in fine arts from NYU, making her Dr. Taylor Swift. Since Swift started her music career so early on, the whirlwind of the music industry swept her up before she could pursue higher education. Now Swift has an accolade that many can’t claim, with a doctorate from a highly prestigious university. She even had the opportunity to address the NYU Class of 2022 in a speech. Check out a clip below:

Taylor Swift’s speech was a good balance of humor, advice, and insight on what it’s like to be thrust into the spotlight at a young age. Swift imparted the wisdom that “cringe is unavoidable” and to “learn to live alongside the cringe.” Overall, pretty good advice. You can’t go your whole life avoiding trying things because you’re afraid people will judge you or call you cringe because of it. With the amount of work Taylor has put into the music industry and the number of huge records she’s produced, this doctorate is definitely well-earned. After all, she is a pop icon and one of the best-selling musicians of all time.

Taylor Swift has been pretty busy over the last couple of years, as she dealt with a dispute over the master recordings of her records. Talent manager Scooter Braun and her former label Big Machine prevented her from having ownership of her masters, so Swift decided to re-record some of her biggest albums with Fearless and Red, adding the subtitle (Taylor’s Version) to designate which versions are the re-recordings. Both albums became among the best-selling albums of the year. These two re-recordings were preceded by two brand new albums from Swift in 2020 called Folklore and Evermore. After recording four full albums over the course of two years, it’s definitely surprising that Swift has had a relatively quiet 2022.

Even when Taylor Swift has a relatively low-key year, she’s still doing some pretty big things. In addition to receiving her doctorate, she also recorded a song called “Carolina” for the upcoming adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing. This is undoubtedly one of the biggest novel adaptations coming out in the near future and having a Taylor Swift original on the soundtrack is only going to help with the movie’s popularity.

Perhaps the most interesting project for Taylor Swift’s 2022 schedule is her role in the upcoming David O. Rusell film Amsterdam. David O. Russell directs and wrote the movie, which tells the story of three friends who witness a murder in the 1930s, become suspects, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history. The movie has a stacked cast, with Anya Taylor-Joy, Mike Meyers, Margot Robbie, Zoe Saldana, Robert De Niro, Rami Malek, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, John David Washington, and Chris Rock. While we don’t know what role Dr. Taylor Swift will be playing in the movie, it’s sure to be much better than Cats.
