When it comes to celebrity news, Robert Downey Jr. may be the all-time leader in making headlines that will be talked about for months on end. From his early start in Hollywood to some of his rougher days, and finally his resurgence in his iconic portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. knows how to make a splash. Recently, the Tropic Thunder actor took to social media to show off a slightly different side, resulting in some fans scratching their heads in bewilderment.

On June 5, 2022, Robert Downey Jr. posted a short video on Twitter and Instagram to congratulate members of the Malibu Little League baseball team for winning their AAA championship. Downey’s son is on the team, the Dodgers, and can be seen jumping up and down with the rest of his teammates. At one point in the video, Downey turns the camera to himself giving a thumbs-up as the team cheers in excitement. What went viral about the video, however, is the fact that Downey is sporting a very short, blue buzzcut.

Thanking the team’s coaches for a job well done, Robert Downey Jr. showed off his new haircut, as well as a photo with his wife Susan. Wearing a “Chai” around his neck, which means “life” in Hebrew, Downey flaunted his blue hair for the world to see. One possible reason for this blue color could be that the Chaplin actor was trying to show solidarity with his son’s baseball team, as they donned Dodger blue uniforms.

While the purpose of Robert Downey Jr.’s video may have been to toast the little league champs, fans took to Twitter to respond to the actor’s new haircut. In a comment on Downey’s photo, Hampshire magician wrote, “Loving the blue hair!! Electric,” while The Dude quipped, “Iron Man has turned into Steel Man.” Needless to say, it appears that Downey’s fans are taking a liking to the blue hair after all.

After the celebrations have ended for Robert Downey Jr. and his family, it seems that the Academy Award-nominated actor will be busy for the foreseeable future. After retiring from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey is returning to his Sherlock Holmes roots by starring in the third installment of the successful franchise, currently in pre-production with costar Jude Law. Deadline reported last year that Downey had joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic Oppenheimer, due to be released in theaters July 2023, alongside Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Jack Quaid, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon. Downey will also re-team with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 collaborator Shane Black in the new crime drama Play Dirty, based on the “Parker” novels by Donald E. Westlake. Play Dirty is still in pre-production, and very little is known about other casting choices for the film.
