Pamela Anderson has made a career out of flaunting her ample assets. She’s been on the cover of many popular men’s magazines, she’s starred in some risqué feature films as well as some gratuitous home videos, and the actress/model has even written a few books. With all her notoriety, why haven’t we seen her lately?
One doesn’t need to be a psychiatrist to understand how Pamela Anderson’s childhood may have shaped not only her career, but her personal life as well, and in 2014, Anderson came clean.
Calling her parents “loving” and “trying to keep me safe,” Anderson nevertheless was not. She was speaking at the launch of her Pamela Anderson Foundation in Cannes, France when she opened up about her brutal childhood.
From ages 6 to 10, Anderson claims she was sexually molested by her female babysitter. Those four years were just a prelude as to what would follow – the 12-year-old Anderson being raped by a 25-year-old man.
The horror for a young Pamela Anderson didn’t stop there, not even close. While in the ninth grade, “My first boyfriend in grade nine decided it would be funny to gang rape me (with six of his friends),” Anderson added via NBC News.
Why she took so long to come forward with all the abuse she suffered is not to be judged. Abuse victims must deal with their pain and trauma as they see fit. “Needless to say, I had a hard time trusting humans — I just wanted off this earth,” Pamela Anderson remarked at the time. “I wasn’t sure why I was alive.”
To Pamela Anderson’s credit and despite the sexual abuse horrors she faced, she was able to get through and thrive.
Pamela Anderson made her move to Hollywood at the beginning of the ‘90s. Her first few roles revolved around TV series such as Charles in Charge, Married People, Top of the Heap, and Married…with Children. Her early claim to fame, though, was on the Tim Allen-led sitcom Home Improvement where Anderson appeared as the Tool Time Girl, Lisa.
For the sitcom’s first three seasons, Anderson held a recurring role, appearing in 22 episodes. She would return for one more episode in 1997.
BAYWATCH CALLS PAMELA ANDERSON
While Pamela Anderson was gaining recognition on Home Improvement, she was looking for more permanent work. She found it when series executive producer and star David Hasselhoff offered her the role of CJ Parker on Baywatch. Anderson immediately took the role, which then became her full-time gig, causing her to give up her recurring role on Home Improvement.
The move was a blessing (or perhaps a curse for Anderson). She gained notoriety as one of the best blondes in Hollywood and held on to her role as Parker for five seasons, making her one of the longest-tenured stars of the series.
OOZING SEX APPEAL
For the bulk of Pamela Anderson’s career, sex and sex appeal have been at the forefront. Before Anderson’s Hollywood career took off, she appeared as the Playboy cover girl in the October 1989 issue. Playboy then chose Pamela Anderson as their Playmate of the Month for their February 1990 issue, where Anderson appeared in the centerfold picture.
Pamela Anderson’s Playboy career spans 22 years (and counting). She holds the record by appearing 11 times on the cover of Playboy.
Pamela Anderson continued to lean on her sex appeal to further her career, both on television and features. She took on the role of Barb Wire in a feature of the same name in 1996. The movie was meant to start a franchise and was based on the Dark Horse comic book series.
Unfortunately for Anderson, the film was a bomb right out of the gate. It was made for $9 million but brought home a paltry $3.8 at the box office. This failure didn’t stop Anderson from trying to move forward with her career.
PAMELA ANDERSON IS A V.I.P.
After her time on Baywatch ended, Pamela Anderson was in the market for another hit series. She actually found one on the series V.I.P. It followed Anderson as Vallery Irons, the figurehead of a bodyguard protection agency who knows nothing about the business. The comedy-action series ran for four successful seasons.
V.I.P. wouldn’t be the only series Pamela Anderson would be successful with. After her time on V.I.P., Anderson would be seen in Stripperella and after that, Stacked. All these series have one thing in common, Pamela Anderson showing off what made her famous – her body.
SAME OL STORY
Pamela Anderson’s career would continue to have that same look that brings up the old adage – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Her time on screen still revolved around sex. Her time in magazines the same. She would be seen in Playboy again and again while also appearing nude in other magazines such as GQ and Stuff.
Anderson’s movie career was beginning to take on a B and C-movie status with titles like Blonde and Blonder, Superhero Movie, Costa Rican Summer, and Jackhammer. The only thing that could top this was the revolving door that she called marriage.
In total, Pamela Anderson has been married five times, four of them notoriously so.
Her first marriage, perhaps her most famous, was to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. The pair tied the knot in 1995 after having only met four days prior. It was tumultuous from the start, though during their marriage, the couple did have two children.
The marriage was riddled with trouble, from Anderson contracting hepatitis C by sharing tattoo needles with Tommy Lee to Lee being arrested for spousal abuse and being sentenced to six months in L.A. County jail. Then, of course, there was their infamous sex tape.
The sex tape, which made its rounds after electrician Rand Gauthier stole it, was not the only time Pamela Anderson was caught privately with her pants down. Another tape, this one involving her with Poison lead singer Brett Michaels, also found its way to the mainstream audience.
Pamela Anderson’s second marriage was to another rocker, Robert J. Ritchie aka Kid Rock. This marriage would last a whole four months when the two announced their separation based on irreconcilable differences.
Pamela Anderson’s third and fourth marriage was actually to the same person – professional poker player Rick Salomon. They married the first time in October 2007, calling it quits in February 2008. They then took the plunge once again in early 2014 and by February 2015, they were once again divorced.
One hopes that Pamela Anderson’s fifth marriage is the charm. She met and fell for bodyguard Dan Hayhurst during the COVID lockdown. The two appear happy but with many things Pamela Anderson-related, that could be fleeting.
PAMELA ANDERSON NOW
Pamela Anderson has stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight the past few years. Her last feature was the 2018 French “comedy” City Hunter aka Nicky Larson et le parfum de Cupidon. Also in 2018, Anderson published her third novel, this one titled Lust for Love: Rekindling Intimacy and Passion in Your Relationship with co-author Shmuley Boteach as they take pornography to task.
These days Pam is still active on Instagram where she posts pictures like this…
Pamela Anderson does not appear to be done in Hollywood as she has one project lined up, the horror film 18 & Over.
