Oh, those tricky movie celebs. They sure can have their fun when they want. We can count former Gossip Girl Michelle Trachtenberg as one of those “fun” celebrities.
The actress, whose claim to fame comes from playing Dawn Summers in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as playing Georgina Sparks in another hit show Gossip Girl, appeared to announce to fans via her Instagram account that she got herself engaged. Michelle Trachtenberg’s posting was of a selfie of her posing with a gigantic diamond and the caption, “I picked the right one,” followed by a smiley face, a lightning bolt, and a diamond ring emoji.
Fans fell for it and posted congratulations. But they weren’t in order. The truth was that there was specific reason for her sporting the new accessory on her ring finger and it had nothing to do with getting married.
Before we get into specifics of her diamond ring, Michelle Trachtenberg is currently dating Gersh Agency talent agent Jay Cohen, who happens to be her talent agent. The actress moved over to the Gersh Agency back in 2014 but it is unclear if Cohen has been her agent since the beginning or not. All of this news of Trachtenberg and Cohen comes as a surprise as their relationship has been kept under wraps. That is until Trachtenberg decided to sport that big ring.
The reason, though, was revealed by Michelle Trachtenberg herself shortly after her faux announcement. She said: “Now that I have your attention. I know @joebiden @kamalaharris and I will be very happy together. #vote.” She ended that line with a blue heart. Tricky Michelle. Give her credit for bringing attention to potential voters by grabbing them, leading them on, then delivering her most important message.
Apparently, her follow-up wasn’t seen by many. In fact, her Buffy co-star, Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar responded with “My baby.” Actress Tia Mowry (Sister, Sister, The Game) also responded with a whole bunch of heart emojis. Even celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh responded with a series of clapping emojis. Jon Lieckfelt chimed in with his own sense of humor, “I thought you were talking about your nose but then I saw the ring (not the movie). Congratulations miss.”
Fans were even happy for the actress, some responding with “mazel mazel!” or “Congrats! Beyond thrilled for you and damn that ring.” If it was attention she was seeking, attention is what she got. Michelle Trachtenberg finally had to respond to the many well-wishes and congratulations. She jumped back onto Gellar’s comment by telling her “April Fool’s Day?” She responded in kind to Tia Mowry.
A Brief History Of Michelle Trachtenberg
Michelle Trachtenberg began her film career as the lead in Harriet the Spy but this was after having established herself on TV with Law & Order, Clarissa Explains It All, the soap opera All My Children, and for three seasons on the series The Adventures of Pete & Pete.
She was able to parlay these early successes into bigger fare by joining Buffy the Vampire Slayer during its fourth season, then turning that into a very successful TV and movie career.
Michelle Trachtenberg’s career is also highlighted by the aforementioned Gossip Girls as well as Euro Trip, 17 Again, the remake of Black Christmas, Weeds, Guidance, and Human Kind Of.
While award-winning Michelle Trachtenberg has never been married, she has been linked to some high-profile men in the past. From 2004 to 2006, she was dating actor Shawn Ashmore (The Boys, The Rookie) and Scott Sanford from 2008 to 2010. Trachtenberg has also been linked to Fall Out Boys bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz.
Michelle Trachtenberg did get her “go vote” message out, though she may have received more attention for the ring than she did for her actual intended message.
