Believe it or not, actress Kaley Cuoco has been acting for more than 28-years. That’s pretty amazing when you realize she’s only 34-years old. The work Kaley is most associated with, The Big Bang Theory, ended in 2019. Since then Kaley Cuoco hasn’t really been seen on screen. Why hasn’t she shown up in anything else and what is she doing now? We’ve got the answer.
HOW KALEY CUOCO GOT HER START
Kaley Cuoco was six when she first jumped on to the TV screens in the 1992 TV movie Quicksand: No Escape. It also starred Donald Sutherland (Animal House, The Dirty Dozen) and Tim Matheson (Animal House, Up The Creek). Not a memorable movie but it got Cuoco on the board, propelling her to bigger and better things.
Throughout the remainder of the ‘90s, Kaley Cuoco bounced back and forth from TV series to feature movies, while also tossing in another TV movie. Kaley Cuoco was seen on TV shows such as Northern Exposure, My So-Called Life, Ellen, The Wonderful World Of Disney, and The Tony Danza Show. On the big screen, she had parts in Virtuosity, Picture Perfect, and Can’t Be Heaven.
Kaley Cuoco hit the 2000’s running. As she got older, the parts came in bunches. In 2000 along, Cuoco was in two TV movies (Growing Up Brady portraying Maureen McCormick, and Alley Cats Strike) and three TV series, Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush, Homewood P.I., and Ladies Man.
As the 2000s rolled on, so did a busy Kaley Cuoco’s career. She stuck mainly to the TV circuit, finding roles in 7th Heaven, The Nightmare Room, and Complete Savages. Cuoco also did some voice work as she was heard on the TV series Loonatics Unleashed, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, and Bratz.
8 SIMPLE RULES
Kaley Cuoco got her first “big” break on the sitcom 8 Simple Rules. She played Bridget Hennessy, daughter to Kate and Paul, who were played by Katey Sagal (Married With Children) and John Ritter (Three’s Company).
The series was meant as a vehicle for John Ritter but his untimely death in 2003 changed the course of the show. Katey Sagal and Kaley Cuoco, along with Amy Davidson, continued on with the series for another two seasons before it was brought to an end. Cuoco moved on to star for a couple of seasons on the hit show Charmed, which lead her into her BIG show.
KALEY CUOCO ON THE BIG BANG THEORY
The Big Bang Theory began in 2007 and while the ratings weren’t huge during its first season, the show eventually became a hit and also one of the longest-running sitcoms in TV history.
Kaley Cuoco played Penny, an aspiring actress who waited on tables while waiting for her big break. The series ran for 12 seasons and 281 episodes in which Cuoco was in 280 of them. Throughout the series, her character was paired with Leonard (Johnny Galecki, who was once her real-life boyfriend) in a will they-won’t they situation. Leonard eventually wore down Penny, they married, and even though her character was against having children, the series finale shows Penny giving Leonard what he wished for: a baby they could raise together.
IN BETWEEN BIG BANGIN’
Kaley Cuoco didn’t focus solely on Big Bang. The fact that it was a hit show opened more doors for her during her time off from the set. She was seen in movies such as Cougar Club, The Penthouse, The Last Ride, and The Wedding Ringer with Kevin Hart and Josh Gad. She definitely didn’t suffer for work.
KALEY CUOCO’S PERSONAL LIFE
Kaley Cuoco married (her 2nd) husband Karl Cook in June of 2018. Theirs is a different sort of relationship as, for the time being, the couple does not live together. Not that they are in a marriage of convenience (imagine that in Hollywood!) but because they are in the process of building their dream home and until it is complete, they reside in separate homes.
As Kaley Cuoco told Today, “We’re building our dream house. We’re eventually going to be under the same roof forever.” She continued on, explaining their relationship, “We have a very unconventional marriage, you know, we have different locations that we’re at a lot,” she said. “You know, we’re not together every single day and I think, personally, it’s important, it works well for us. If we want to Instagram shame each other, Instagram shame each other. It just makes life really fun.”
And Instagram shame it is. Cook, for his part, is quite humorous when it comes to shaming his bride. Here are a couple of his Instagram posts. It looks like the two will do fine under one roof.
KALEY CUOCO NOW
So, with The Big Bang Theory ending, where does that leave Kaley Cuoco? Why haven’t you seen her on screen elsewhere?
In 2017, Cuoco formed Yes, Norman Productions, a television and film production company where she snagged an exclusive multi-year first-look deal with Warner Brothers. Her first grab out of the gate was to option the rights to the novel The Flight Attendant written by Chris Bohjalian, which has since been developed into a limited series which Cuoco will star in. The show is currently in post-production and not ready to be shown yet.
But if you haven’t seen Kaley Cuoco on screen, it’s because she’s been busy using her voice. Kaley Cuoco has been hard at work on the DC Universe’s series Harley Quinn. The show is a very adult-oriented animated series with Cuoco leading the way as the foul-mouthed, Joker-loving Harley Quinn.
