With his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard behind him, things are finally starting to look up for Johnny Depp. In addition to headlining the Maïwenn-directed period drama Jeanne du Barry, premiering at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 16, The Pirates of the Caribbean star just inked a massive deal with Dior. According to Variety, sources project the three-year agreement to be valued at around a staggering $20 million. The monumental deal stands as the largest men’s fragrance pact ever, surpassing Brad Pitt’s $7 million agreement with Chanel No. 5 and Robert Pattinson‘s $12 million deal with Dior Homme.

Johnny Depp first forged a partnership with Dior back in 2015, becoming the face of the brand’s Sauvage men’s perfume line. Since then, a strong bond has formed between the two entities, with their collaboration harnessing Depp’s portrayal as a rebellious rocker in the line’s ad campaign. The details regarding the earnings from the performer’s initial deal with the company are unknown.

In 2020, despite Johnny Depp facing a setback in a libel case against a British newspaper that labeled him as a “wife beater,” Dior stood unwaveringly by his side. Even throughout the highly publicized court proceedings of Depp’s defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Dior displayed loyalty by not terminating their contract with the actor. Unfortunately, Disney took a different stance and terminated the Oscar-nominated actor from his leading role in the immensely successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which has grossed billions of dollars.

It’s nice to see that Johnny Depp is taking proactive steps to mend his public image. The acclaimed actor has actively involved himself in diverse initiatives, such as embarking on new film and television projects, with the intention of shifting the focus toward his professional endeavors and personal development. Undoubtedly, Depp’s unwavering commitment is evident as he strives to move forward from previous controversies and embrace a fresh chapter in his career.

Johnny Depp in Jeanne du Barry

Coming up later this month, fans will have the opportunity to see Johnny Depp take on the captivating role of Louis XV in the historical drama Jeanne du Barry. The film delves into the tale of the King of France and his passionate affair with the courtesan Jeanne Du Barry, portrayed by Maïwenn. Excitement builds as the movie has been selected as the opening feature for the esteemed Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to commence on May 16.

Along with Johnny Depp and Maïwenn, Jeanne Du Barry features a star-studded cast that includes Melvil Poupaud, Pierre Richard, Pascal Greggory, Benjamin Larvernhe, Marianne Basler, India Hair, Luna Carpiaux, Alexandre Styker, and Edouard Michelon. Directed by Maïwenn herself, the film is based on a script co-written by Maïwenn, Teddy Lussi Modeste, and Nicolas Livecchi. Judging from the trailer released a few weeks back, the movie looks like it will mark a triumphant comeback for Depp.

Beyond Jeanne Du Barry, Johnny Depp currently does not have any other film or television projects lined up. However, considering the high anticipation surrounding the movie and his new deal with Dior, we expect that both endeavors will pave the way for numerous exciting opportunities and new projects in the future. It goes without saying that we are eagerly anticipating this new chapter in Johnny Depp’s career.
