Regardless of why he did it or what — if anything — he imagined would happen because of it, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony, he invited the entire world to comment on the moment. One of the latest celebrities to give their own take on the situation is Jim Carrey, who isn’t happy with Smith or of the reaction the star got when his Oscar win for King Richard was announced. In response, social media isn’t very happy with Carrey.

Speaking to CBS (via Variety), Carrey called himself “sickened” by what happened at the Oscars. “I was sickened by the standing ovation. Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.” Jim Carrey told CBS he believed Smith should’ve been escorted off the premises after attacking Rock, adding that if Smith had done it to him he would sue the actor to the tune of $200 million. “[T]hat video is going to be there forever,” Carrey said. “[I]t’s going to be ubiquitous… If you want to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on Twitter [that’s fine]. But you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.” The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 star clarified that he had “nothing against Will Smith. I wish him the best…  but that was not a good moment. It cast a shadow over everyone’s shining moment last night…It was a selfish moment.” You can see part of that interview below.

It probably shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that Jim Carrey finds himself firmly in Team Chris Rock. As Deadline has noted, many of the nation’s top stand-up comics have come out in support of Rock, and while he’s better known for his films these days, Carrey comes from a stand-up background. Comics like Kathy Griffin and Patton Oswalt expressed concern that Smith’s actions will inspire others to physically attack stand-up comics whose jokes they don’t like.

The interview got Jim Carrey’s name trending, and not because of his upcoming return to the role of Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. That may have been what he was promoting in the first place, but that isn’t what Twitter wanted to talk about. Quiet a few fans on the social media platform agree with the actor.

But, in spite of everyone supporting Jim Carrey’s take on what happened, there are a whole lot of people who want the Ace Ventura star to shut up. If you never thought people hated Jim Carrey, buckle up, because some people really hate Jim Carrey. His comments on the slap kicked the proverbial hornet’s nest. First up are those calling the actor a hypocrite for his allegedly horrible mistreatment of co-workers on movie sets.

Then there are fans who go to much darker places, like pointing out the allegations that Jim Carrey abused his much younger ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, who ultimately committed suicide in 2015. There were even allegations that the actor had given multiple sexually transmitted diseases to White before her death. Twitter users brought up the situation quite a bit in their attacks on the actor.

Also on the menu were some pretty controversial statements Jim Carrey has made in the past. The actor’s statements about supposed links between vaccines and autism have not won him many friends on Twitter. And they don’t seem to be doing him well in the wake of his comments.

In short, some people don’t like Jim Carrey, some people don’t like Will Smith, and some people don’t like Chris Rock. And the best way to figure out exactly who doesn’t like who and why is to slap somebody at an awards show. Or, just be alive and look at Twitter.
