It can be rough to have a co-worker you really don’t get along with. Some people bottle that kind of thing up. Jensen Ackles has taken a different route and is sharing his feelings, decades after working with his co-star. In a recent interview on the Inside of You podcast, Jensen Ackles opened up about his time on the television series Dark Angel in the early 2000s. Jessica Alba was the lead on the show. When Ackles joined the cast, she apparently held a grudge against his casting.

Here’s how Jensen Ackles recalls the events.

No, she was horrible. [I] told this to her face. I was just kind of, I was the new kid on the block and I got picked on by the lead. Like the worst kind of bickering a brother and sister could do. She had it out for me. It wasn’t that she didn’t like me. She was like, ‘Oh here’s the pretty boy the network brought in for more window dressing because that’s what we need.’ So I was just like, ‘Oh, looks like we’re getting b***h Alba today, everybody hang onto your nuts.’ So it was that kind of relationship, but she didn’t make it easy on me.

Dark Angel was a sci-fi show on Fox that began airing in late 2000. It was co-created by James Cameron and ran for two seasons. It’s often compared to shows like Xena: Warrior Princess and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Jessica Alba was 19 years old and not yet the big name she would soon become for major roles in movies like Fantastic 4, Honey, and Sin City. Jensen Ackles joined the series 16 episodes into its first season. He played both Ben and Alec, which put him in a fair number of scenes for the 22 episodes he was in of the show’s 43 episode run. For two actors who didn’t get along, that’s a lot of time spent together.

Jensen Ackles did point out that being 19 years old and leading Dark Angel must have put Jessica Alba under a lot of pressure. Eventually, the two did develop a more respectful relationship. While he maintains that they were like a brother and sister bickering, he followed up his claims that she picked on him with a story of her coming to his trailer to comfort him after his grandfather passed away. These stories ring true with his assertion that they were like a bickering brother and sister, in that they did have some respect for each other underneath it all. He says that they have since mended the issues between them since the show’s run.

At the time, Dark Angel was a major part for Jensen Ackles. Prior to that, his biggest part had been an ongoing role in the soap opera Days Of Our Lives. Following Dark Angel, he had a short run on Dawson’s Creek and Smallville. Then, in 2005, he was cast as Dean Winchester in Supernatural. The show would see him co-star with Jared Padalecki. The two appeared to get along much better than Jensen Ackles and Jessica Alba. They often appeared to be brotherly in real-life when they did interviews or appeared at conventions. Since the show went off the air, the two had a brief public misunderstanding when it was announced that Ackles is working on a prequel for Supernatural that Padalecki didn’t know about, but the two have since mended fences and appear to be back on track.

Next up for Jensen Ackles is his new role as Soldier Boy for The Boys season three on Amazon. The first episodes of the new season will be available for streaming on Amazon June 3, 2022.
