Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson wouldn’t have been a guy you’d have thought could make a strong Presidential run a few years ago. Heck, he was a former awesome wrestler turned amazing action film star with the personality and charisma to carry a hit film. But President of the United States? That was a position reserved for the Ivy League elite, right? Something only for the career politicians who’d worked their way up the governmental hierarchy. But a reality star-turned-President later and literally anything is on the table. And that’s where Johnson is leaving it, saying he’d “think about” if the wind blew that way.

The Rock was out promoting Young Rock, his upcoming television show on NBC when he was asked about possibly running for President at some point in the maybe not-so-distant future. He didn’t dismiss out of hand. In fact, it was quite the opposite saying, “I would consider a Presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted…” Dwayne Johnson went on to follow up with that, clarifying that he would consider it if that’s what the “people wanted” though didn’t give any other specifics.

Dwayne Johnson being bandied about as a possible Presidential contender isn’t necessarily a new thing. Even back only a few months ago, he was considered by some books and oddsmakers to be the third-highest favorite to be in the running. Though it’s worth noting it was a totally distant +40000  chance. But the fact that he’s even mentioned in the same sentence is probably worth something at this point, and he’s clearly leaving his options open.

And can you blame the guy? Dwayne Johnson is one of the most charismatic and universally adored superstars we have right now. A gregarious and personable guy who’s one of the most famous people out there. These days, with politics the way they are, it’s not inconceivable this comes closer to reality. After all, Arnold Schwarzennear became the Govern-ator of California and Donald Trump got all the way to President after his career in the social limelight and a resurgence in popularity off the back of The Apprentice.

Before he maybe one day gets to the Oval Office, Dwayne Johnson has plenty of projects getting ready to hit both the big and small screen over the next couple of years. Of course, there’s the aforementioned Young Rock which will hit NBC with Adrian Grouix playing the titular role. It will be based on Johnson’s early life. He’s also working on a Doc Savage series for Sony.

And as for the movies, there’s a lot to get excited about for Dwayne Johnson. He’s set to join the comic book movie ranks with Black Adam in the DC universe which could really bring about a new look and tone for that stable of movies. And then there’s San Andreas 2 which will have him fighting earthquakes again. So, it’s an exciting time for the superstar actor. But maybe in about four years, we see him out there on the campaign trail kissing babies and counting votes.
