The long-standing #freebritney movement has seemingly taken another turn, as Britney’s younger sister Jamie has come under fire by the deeply invested fanbase of Britney Spears. Many were wondering how and why Jamie Lynn Spears stood idly by as her sister was being controlled since this conservatorship was put in place in 2008. Following the massive blowback that Jaime has taken as a result of the fanbase wanting justice for the pop singer, she recently sat down for an in-depth interview. What did she know? Why didn’t she help?

Fans aren’t the only ones blaming Jamie Lynn Spears. Britney Spears recently took to Instagram to place blame on her family members who profited off her superstardom, while she remained controlled and silenced. Jamie claimed she didn’t understand what a conservatorship was or how to go about stopping it. You can see her explain her confusion in the interview below:

Family matters can be messy as is, but when you add in the fact that Britney Spears hasn’t been in control of her life since 2008, that could all come to a natural boiling point. Thankfully, Britney’s father finally stepped down and agreed to relinquish control of his daughter’s life, but there is clearly more work to be done as far as mending relationships that were clearly broken as a result of no one stepping up in Britney’s defense. The above video is taken from part of the Jamie Lynn Spears interview, where she goes into a bit more detail about her side of the story. The issue here is that Jamie seemed to have written a book in the time in which her sister was being controlled. Things I Should Have Said is the tell-all book by Jaime Lynn Spears, but writing a book instead of helping Britney has fans feeling like some profit is being made off her sister’s situation.

Jamie Lynn Spears claims that she had no idea what Britney Spears’ conservatorship was and still doesn’t understand the details of what it is today, but with so much drama surrounding the details of this case for the past several years, it’s hard to believe she hasn’t done more research to educate herself. Britney’s fans have watched documentaries and struggled to learn the finer legal details. It’s difficult for many of them to understand what it is that Jamie didn’t understand, so many fans remain angry. Britney Spears’ fans have consistently called Jamie out on her inability to step in when her older sister needed help. Jamie claims in the interview that she “attempted” to get Britney help by reaching out to people but Britney’s legal team would not allow it.

The fact remains that Britney Spears was controlled by her father since 2008, and it sounds like no one in her family truly stepped in to take her side or to help in the matter. Jamie Lynn claims she tried, but it’s still difficult for many fans, and Britney Spears herself, to see her side of things. Things sound as if they are not going to get any better, even though Jamie has stated, “I’ve only ever loved and supported her, and done what’s right by her.” That sounds good on camera, but Britney clearly doesn’t feel the same way.
