Brie Larson is an Academy Award-winning actor and one of our finest eaters of autumn leaves, but her greatest talent might lie in her social media workouts. In her latest video post on Instagram, the Captain Marvel star appears on a workout bench in dark metallic gray tights. She then uses a belt wrapped around her feet to repeatedly pull a visibly heavy weight, which looks like one heck of a workout. According to the caption, she is pulling her own body weight, 10 reps, 3 times. Yikes. You can check out the video here:
Of course, this is not the fourth or fifteenth time that Brie Larson has shown off her intense workouts on Instagram. In this one from a while ago, the star of Room and The WB’s Raising Dad did pull-ups until she was red in the face and then displayed some serious six-pack abs. In this other one, she wrapped actual chains around her midriff to make pushups even harder. And in this one…she did yoga in the middle of a street in the United Kingdom, but that’s still a good workout, even if kind of odd. Given that Larson is frequently called upon to perform some physically demanding stunts in her role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, it is no wonder that she spends so much of her time doing exercises that would make the majority of us roll into a ball whimpering.
In a recent interview with Uproxx, Brie Larson also expounded at length her deep love of the Fast & Furious franchise and her intense desire to join it. Given the cast members of that particular other billion-dollar franchise are quite noted for their attention to physical training, could she be putting in the effort to show she can hang with Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and sometimes Dwayne Johnson? Probably not, but it does seem like she could give them a run for their money in the gym.
More than likely, Brie Larson is keeping prime shape for her upcoming Marvel sequel The Marvels. This time around, she is sharing billing with several other superheroes, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and the busiest man in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Monica Rambeau was introduced last year in the Disney+ streaming show WandaVision, while Kamala Khan (also known as Ms. Marvel in comics continuity) is to debut in a titular show later this year. Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson is probably wrapping up production on anywhere between two to 20 projects at this very moment.
The Marvels is not set to release until February of 2023, but Brie Larson has already been building up anticipation, calling the sequel “bonkers” and praising director Nia DaCosta (who helmed the excellent Candyman reboot last year). Between now and this time next year, we are doubtless going to have any number of Instagram videos of Larson going hard at the gym or just doing something weird. So that will have to keep us satisfied until then.
