Famous actor Billy Bob Thornton has been trending on Twitter, but not for any sort of film or television series that he is currently involved with. Apparently, there has been a stand-off between an armed man in front of the United Nations building in New York City. This man, at first glance, strikes a bearing resemblance to Thornton.
From a faraway shot of the man holding a shotgun to his own head, he looks to be a clean-shaven Billy Bob Thornton, but that has since been disproven by the man being taken into custody. Whether or not the Twitterverse saw an opening for a joke, plenty of Tweets began to role in about Thornton, “losing his mind.”
This particular Tweet would be quite convincing as the man holding the shotgun to his head looks almost exactly like the actor Billy Bob Thornton. The caption itself leads one to believe that this could be a joke, but then again, the shotgun-wielding man looks a little too close to Thornton for the internet not to completely run with the idea that the actor may have lost his marbles.
The reports came in that a man thought to be “suicidal” was pacing around on First Street between East 42nd and 45th streets right in front of the United Nations building in New York City. The man had an alleged standoff between cops on the scene as he was pacing back and forth with a shotgun pointed directly at his own head. There are no further reports indicating what this man’s name is, but he is in his 60s, and that could be another detail that led people to believe that it was actually Billy Bob Thornton ready to take his own life.
The man was apprehended by authorities around 1:45 p.m. EST and no harm came to him or anyone in the surrounding area. There is no telling as to why this man was attempting to take his life, but brandishing a gun outside the UN is definitely one way to get the cops to your location in a few seconds. Thankfully no one had been hurt and Billy Bob Thornton is also alive and well and not attempting to use a shotgun to end his life or his legendary career prematurely.
Streets in NY began to shut down so that the proper authorities could deal with the suicidal man, but the funny Tweets did not stop. The above Tweet hinted at the erratic behavior that Billy Bob Thornton has shown throughout his acting and career, which led even more people to believe he actually might be out on the street with a shotgun. It is December and he did star in Bad Santa. Maybe he just got tired of hearing Maria Carrey’s Christmas music.
Billy Bob Thornton is alive and well and is currently in the midst of filming The Gray Man, which has an already star-studded cast and is the network’s most expensive film to date. Its $200 million dollar budget is likely due to having to pay so many high-profile actors that include, Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Wagner Moura, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Julia Butters, and now Thornton.
