Alec Baldwin is currently in the middle of a storm of controversary over a decision to act without thinking or double-checking the impact of his choice. That’s right, the beleaguered Baldwin is facing a social media backlash over an Instagram post of his wife, Hilaria, and six-year old son. The post is the first by the Boss Baby star since being charged with involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting on Rust.

The post’s caption has been pointed out as inappropriate for a photo with a mother and son, saying “The old “let me give you a back rub” ploy.” Alec Baldwin went in alter and added the line “Potato chips to follow” following the avalanche of comments admonishing the star for his tone-deaf caption. The 30 Rock star explained in the comments that “I adjusted the text. I guess because…you know…there is so much of that Reddit trash out there.”

Alec Baldwin’s comment is, of course, a sexual innuendo, he wouldn’t have referred to it as a “ploy” if he didn’t know. Some of the comments defend the caption, insisting that other people are misreading it and making it into something sexual. Others are also pointing out that the use of “ploy,” makes it quite clear what the intention was, and just how weird that is

Most of the comments on Alec Baldwin’s Instagram are either defending the star in light of the recent criminal charge or poking fun at the ongoing controversary over Hilaria’s fake Spanish accent. Not strangers to controversy, both of the Baldwins frequently will fire back at critics over social media, which is either a positive or a negative depending on your view. In addition to the conspiracy theory about his wife’s ethnicity, another popular topic of discussion is the allegedly fake baby bump from each of the seven times that the yoga instructor has been pregnant.

On social media, users pointed out that the bump looked fake, prompting Hilaria to respond with a video showing the baby, their latest, kicking. Conspiracy theories around celebrities are nothing new, nor is the act of responding to strange theories, but it feels like there is always something with this couple that sets the internet ablaze. Alec Baldwin’s latest issues however, can not be solved with a simple block button.

Last week, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced Alec Baldwin would be charged for the accidental death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust. Baldwin was holding, and discharged, the gun which was supposed to be unloaded, resulting in one fatality and an injury to director Joel Souza. The set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also charged as well, each charge carries with it the potential for up to five years in prison.

Alec Baldwin’s filming schedule is still booked, including the film 97 Minutes, but the upcoming trial will likely take most of the star’s time. While the mystery of how live ammo wound up in the gun may never be fully solved, the set of Rust has already been the subject of an OHSB investigation, which will surely be discussed during the upcoming trial. In the future, it’s likely fans will be seeing significantly less of the Baldwins on social media.
