This Homemade Star Wars Landspeeder Pet Bed Is Totally The Cat’s Pajamas

star warsWhen I was a kid, I had a bunk bed and then a normal bed, and then my parents tossed their waterbed before I could step in and lay claim. (Like the 1970s pimp that I am?) Any trip to the furniture store always takes me back to childhood, seeing racecar beds and spaceship beds and the like. But in order to get the coolest bed of all, I apparently should have grown up as a cat instead of a human. May I jealously present the world’s first (I presume) homemade Star Wars Landspeeder cat bed.

Crafted by the amazingly creative minds at Roxy’s Dream, these guys make a ton of pet-related furniture and accessories, and this is easily the greatest bed they’ve made yet. Completely one of a kind, the Cat Speeder is going for around $600, to make up for all the work that went into it. As you can imagine, Roxy’s Dream isn’t a mass-production factory or anything.

Star Wars Land Might Be On Hold At Disneyland

Darth Vader at DisneylandWhile Lucasfilm is slowly making its way through the Disney brand with movies, TV shows, and other merchandise, it seems that the Star Wars expansion at Disney Resorts has been put on hold for the time being. Star Wars has been slowly taking over Tomorrowland at Disney Parks, so it seemed fitting that Disney would give us an actual Star Wars Land.

According to MiceAge, it appears that the Mouse House is getting cold feet about the Star Wars expansions in their existing theme parks. Disney has put Star Wars Land on hiatus at California’s Disneyland and outright canceled the expansion at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in California. The proposed Star Wars Land and Star Wars-centric attractions were going to be put in place over the next five years, with an official opening in 2018. MiceAge writes:

Originally the plan to add Star Wars to Tomorrowland was going to be divided into two phases; a first phase involving some placemaking and a replacement for Captain EO to be finished prior to the 60th Anniversary, and a second phase kicking off in late 2015… Although Anaheim gets off a bit easier with its Star Wars plan on hold, as the plans for many of these Star Wars elements coming to Disney Hollywood Studios in WDW have just been cancelled outright.

Star Wars Land Might Feature A Speeder Bike Thrill Ride

speeder bikeStar Wars has long been a part of Disney’s Tomorrowland. Since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm last year, the Mouse House is slowly phasing in more theme park attractions based on Lucas’ movies, and possibly even a full Star Wars Land section at Disneyland. Star Wars would move out of Tomorrowland, but not before it claimes some of the futuristic theme park’s real estate.

According to MiceAge, Disney’s Imagineers are working with Lucasfilm designers to make Star Wars Land a reality. At the moment, there is already the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue ride, so Disney and Lucasfilm are hoping to add more attractions, including a possible Speeder Bike thrill ride from Return of the Jedi, and a Millennium Falcon attraction.

Disney is planning to renovate the old Rocket Jets spinner and PeopleMover platform into a likely Star Wars landing pad for the Millennium Falcon. The space vessel would greet park-goers and double as a walkthrough of Han Solo’s smuggling spaceship. In the shadows of the old Tomorrowland Terrace dining facility would be a new Tatooine Cantina where park-goers could experience an interactive dining/entertainment concept from the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Land and Avatar Land Teased At The D23 Expo

darth-vader-at-disneyland

With the Disney fan celebration D23 Expo well underway in Anaheim, California, Disney and Lucasfilm have been teasing out bits and pieces about what the addition of Star Wars can bring to Disney fans all over the world. This is the first D23 after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm last year, so it will be very interesting to see what new Star Wars news comes out of D23 this weekend. Earlier, Lucasfilm teased something interesting with a collection of crates labeled “Orange Harvest.” Some believe the crates have to do with Star Wars: Episode VII, while others believe that it might have something to do with the proposed Star Wars Land theme park at Disneyland.

Disney’s Star Wars Land Might Have A Jedi Academy

Star Wars LandWhen Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in October, they didn’t spend $4.4 billion just to make a new Star Wars sequel trilogy. Disney thinks about the big picture, and Star Wars: Episode VII is just a good start. There have been rumors about a possible Star Wars Land theme park opening at Disney World in Orlando, Florida for some time, which would fully expand Disney’s reach into the Star Wars Universe. Now some possible details have leaked.

According to Comic Book Movie‘s inside sources, Disney is slowly making changes to their Disney World theme park to make way for more Star Wars-centric attractions and entertainment. It seems as if Disney will incorporate some Star Wars Weekends events into a permanent attraction for park guests. Read the short list of changes below:

  • A indoor Jedi Training Academy will be at the ABC Sound Studio.
  • The Backlot Express is being converted into a Star Wars-themed ride aimed for younger children who don’t make the height requirement on the Star Tours ride.

Disney’s Star Wars Land Is Coming By 2018

stI’m not one of these people who just walks around blaming the second Star Wars trilogy for all the problems of the world, but I’m now at the point in my life where I can admit they probably did taint my fandom for the franchise more than I noticed at the time. But you know what I’ll never give up on, no matter what? Theme parks! And now the granddaddy of them all may soon be taking visitors to a galaxy far, far away. Florida.

George Kalogridis was transferred to Walt Disney World Resort from California’s Disneyland Resort in order to give a huge facelift to the Hollywood Studios park. And aside from a Cars Land that will be similar to its West Coast counterpart, the park renovation will almost definitely include Star Wars Land, which was rumored a few months back.

According to Theme Park Insider, it will be a five-year expansion to be finished in 2018, unless cash comes to shove and it gets completed a little faster. Chances are, the Star Tours ride would be the center of the construction, and the Muppet theater and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area would be getting torn down.
