See Gal Gadot As Netflix’s James Bond
Gal Gadot will be starring as Rachel Stone in Heart of Stone on Netflix.
Gal Gadot has already done about as big an action movie as you’ll ever get when she graced the big screen as Wonder Woman. So from a hero and superpowers standpoint, she already has most of the bases covered. But as you can see from the above mini-trailer and first look for Heart of Stone, she might be pulling out, even more, stops with a character who could establish a James Bond-like presence on Netflix.
The Instagram post by Gal Gadot was for Netflix’s TUDUM event over the weekend and gave an early look at what to expect from this movie and her new character Rachel Stone. It is readily apparent that they are following some time-honored ideas when it comes to cinematic covert operations and she’ll be something of a lone wolf type looking to take down the bad guys.
This first look at Heart of Stone moves back and forth between shots from the movie and actual interviews with the main players. Gal Gadot lets on that it’s going to be a “super grounded” and “raw action thriller” with this movie. Her character is a CIA agent who is trying to take down an international plot and it sure looks like they dial the action up to the hilt in this flick.
Joining Gal Gadot in Heart of Stone will be a couple of others we also hear from in this first look. One is Jamie Dornan who is playing Parker. And there’s also Alia Bhatt who is playing Keya Dhawan. Others in the cast include Matthias Schweighofer and Sophie Okonedo. It’s being directed by Tom Harper who most recently helmed The Aeronauts. The script is from Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder.
There is some chance, based on the sheer celebrity of Gal Gadot and the nature of this film that Netflix is looking to have Heart of Stone start of some kind of franchise for the streamer. This would be relatively in line with what we’ve seen from the platform lately. They have a couple going with Chris Hemsworth coming back for another Extraction movie, Ryan Gosling likely getting more movies in The Gray Man universe, and others.
Oh, and don’t forget the Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and you guessed it, Gal Gadot movie Red Notice which did record-breaking numbers for the streamer. It’s been reported that there will be two more movies coming in that world as well. If Netflix can attach big names to movies that will be fun watches and have relative staying power then it appears they have an operating path for their future content.
There’s no formal release date for when we will see Gal Gadot in Heart of Stone on Netflix, but it’s looking like it will be coming in 2023. We are also set to see Gal Gadot in the live-action Snow White movie in 2024. She’ll be playing the Evil Queen in that one. And one day we will get Wonder Woman 3 though there hasn’t been a formal release date set for that movie.
