Former Batwoman star Ruby Rose has finally revealed why she left the popular CW Network series. The actress, who played Kate Kane for one season said it was a latex allergy that forced her to quit.

During an appearance on KIIS 1065’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Ruby Rose explained that the latex in the costume was a huge problem.“Ask anyone that’s ever played a superhero or villain or anything with that kind of costume, [the costumes are] not fun,” she told the radio station.

The 35-year-old Australian actress said that the costume was extra uncomfortable because of her allergy. The entire ensemble was latex, including her mask. As a result, Ruby Rose’s condition kept getting worse because of the constant contact with the material. Every time she took off the mask she was covered in hives. And her throat was “all messed up.”

Although Ruby Rose looked incredible and heroic in her costume, the actress said she wasn’t a pretty sight after a day of filming. “It was like it was out of a scary movie,” she said noting how bad the hives were. Fortunately, the crew tried to help as much as possible and gave her plenty of Benadryl to help with the reaction.

After Ruby Rose left the show, Javicia Leslie was cast as Ryan Wilder- an original character created to succeed Kate. The character is described as likable, messy, a little goofy, and untamed. She’s also nothing like the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits.

Ryan lives in her van with her plant – a girl who would steal milk for an alley cat but could also kill you with her bare hands. She is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. She’s an athletic, raw, passionate out-lesbian and very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.

At the time, Javicia Leslie’s casting made her the first Black actress to portray the character on screen. And she was very excited to take on the role. After a successful second season without Ruby Rose, Batwoman was renewed for a third season which is set to premiere on October 13, 2021.

Although it was brief, Ruby Rose’s time as Batwoman will not be forgotten. Kate Kane was the first LGBTQ hero to debut on the CW Network. She also reprised the role in other Arrowverse shows like Supergirl, The Flash, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, and Arrow.

Although Ruby Rose is no longer Batwoman, she has taken on plenty of exciting roles since leaving the series. She currently stars in SAS: Red Notice, a British action thriller film directed by Magnus Martens, based on the novel of the same name. The film was released on March 12, 2021.

Ruby Rose can also be seen opposite Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman in Vanquish. Directed by George Gallo, the story follows a retired cop (Freeman) who forces a former drug courier (Rose) to do his bidding by holding her daughter hostage. Armed with guns, guts, and a motorcycle, she must now take out a series of violent gangsters or never see her child again. Vanquish was released on April 16, 2021.
