HillValley1If there’s one thing the internet has taught us, it’s that Lego creations are awesome. Okay, if there’s only one thing the internet has taught us, it’s that people will never get tired of cat videos. But the Lego thing would still be somewhere in the top five, ideally above any of the lessons involving pornography you can’t unsee. But as awesome as Lego creations are in and of themselves, we love them even more when they’re recreating some of our favorite movies, TV shows, and so on. That’s a big part of why the Lego Batman/Harry Potter/Indiana Jones games are so much fun. So when it comes to Lego versions of iconic settings from the Back to the Future series, you had our attention long before you hit 88 miles per hour.

Doctor Who Premiere Pics Are Full Of Victorian Charm And Scowling

Who1After Guardians of the Galaxy releases this weekend, the next big geek milestone on our calendar is the August 23 premiere of Doctor Who’s eighth (modern) season, with Peter Capaldi officially making the role of the time lord his own. Having read the first five scripts for the season, we can safely say that Capaldi’s Doctor is very different from David Tennant and Matt Smith’s portrayals of the character: colder, more alien, more temperamental. And as showrunner Steven Moffat has said several times now, don’t expect him to be swapping flirtatious banter with Clara. Half the time he wanders off, you’re left wondering if he’ll come back for her at all.

The season premiere episode is titled “Deep Breath,” and here’s the official synopsis:

The Doctor has regenerated and now Clara has to deal with the fact that her best friend appears to have changed completely… Meanwhile the newly regenerated Time Lord must face a terrifying monster as the Twelfth Doctor’s era begins in dramatic style!

Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Could See Far More Of These Characters

fb share tweet share

GuardiansMainAs I type this, the first screenings for Marvel’s deep space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy are getting underway all across the world. It’s been coming for a long, long time, and now we can finally sit back in a dark theater and watch it for ourselves. (And it is totally awesome.) The film is tracking to be a hit, and breaking box office records already, but the comic book giant isn’t wasting any time planning the future of the franchise. They’ve already announced Guardians of the Galaxy 2, scheduled it for July 28, 2017, and now we’re hearing the first rumblings of what the story could be, and the expanded role of some key players.

Be warned, there are some mild SPOILERS if you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet, and if you haven’t, shame on you, you should be watching it right now.

Galaxy Quest 2 Could Still Happen, Tim Allen Says There’s A Finished Script

fb share tweet share

Galaxy Quest15 years ago, a strange little movie called Galaxy Quest opened in theaters. A spoof of maybe the most beloved single television show in history, Star Trek, Dean Parisot’s film was a moderate hit at the box office, but has become a fan favorite over the years. It was even voted as the 7th best Trek movie by attendees at a recent convention, beating out the like of Star Trek Into Darkness, Generations, and even the first motion picture in the franchise. There has been sporadic talk about Galaxy Quest 2 from time to time—the adventure of the crew of the NSEA Protector will actually be continued in comic book form—but one of the stars insists that there was in fact a finished script at one point.

At MTV, Jordan Hoffman put together an oral history of Galaxy Quest. Not only is it a fantastic read, it’s an exhaustive examination of the production, release, and lasting impact of a cult favorite. It’s a long piece, but totally worthwhile, and there is talk throughout of a potential follow up. Tim Allen, who plays the William Shatner-esque Jason Nesmith—an actor who, in turn, plays the Captain Kirk-esque Commander Peter Quincy Taggart—says, “There’s a sequel somewhere. It’s written, but I haven’t really gotten a straight answer about it, but Hollywood is a very peculiar place. It is none of my business.”

Z Nation Unveils The First Footage From Syfy’s Zombie Adventure

fb share tweet share

Perusing the upcoming slate of shows currently in development or production over at Syfy, there are definitely a few popular types of shows that the network hopes to capitalize on. Among others, there’s a clone drama (Clone), a time travel adventure (12 Monkeys), and, of course, zombies. Their upcoming entry into the undead sweepstakes, Z Nation is set to debut this September, and now we have our first good look at the series.

Aside from the bare bones of the story and set up, you don’t learn too much about Z Nation from this trailer. Action and post-zombie mayhem are the key features in this video, that and a zombie baby. You can bet their going to play that card in order to traumatize a character that can’t believe he has to shoot a baby in the head. People seem to have a big problem doing that.

Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Thanos Leaked Via Instagram

fb share tweet share

ThanosIt’s old news at this point that the Mad Titan Thanos will be putting in a small appearance in this weekend’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Teased during the after-credits easter egg in Joss Whedon’s first Avengers film, it’s been one of the worst-kept secrets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Thanos was being positioned to be a major foe for the Marvel heroes at some point down the road; it was just a question of when. Initially many assumed he’d be the primary villain for Avengers 2, but that role fell to Ultron instead. For Guardians we’re getting a bit more of Thanos, but only a bit. He makes a brief appearance and is pulling the strings behind the scenes of the events of Guardians, but Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) is the primary bad guy Star-Lord and company will be squaring off against. But while we will have to wait a few more years to see Thanos get his full due, thanks to an Instagram leak, we don’t have to wait to see what he’ll look like on screen.

Warning: visual spoilers below!
