Jonah Hill In Transformers 2

fb share tweet share

Jonah HillGranted, the only thing any of us really care about seeing in the next Transformers movie is more giant freakin robots, but there will be some humans in it too. Shia LaBeouf is coming back, and now EW says Jonah Hill is in talks to join the cast.

If you don’t know who Jonah Hill is, then I suggest you run out and rent (does anyone still rent movies?) these awesome, geektastic movies immediately: The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad. Or, just hop over to a theater and see Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He’s genius.

How that comedic genius will fit into Transformers 2 though, remains to be seen. Word is that he’ll be playing Sam Witwicky’s college roomate, which I guess could mean he’ll be sames new comic-relief sidekick. Except I thought the robots were Sam’s sidekick. Or maybe Sam’s their sidekick. I’m really not sure which.

Transformers Comin’ to Philly!

fb share tweet share

KYW Radio’s website thinks Giant Freakin’ Robots will be terrorizing Will Smith’s old stomping grounds this year! Greater Philadelphia Film Office‘s Sharon Pinkenson confirmed that Transformers 2 will be filmed in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see Starscream tearing down a few national landmarks. CGI will be heavily used. Stupid CGI, I really was looking forward to Philly getting a beatdown.

Hard-Working Freaking Robots in Transformers 2?

fb share tweet share

transformersI’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about Transformers. I just knew that Bay had ruined one of my favorite childhood memories by mixing it up with a stupid love story. Damn you Pearl Harbor! Anyways, Transformers was over for about 8 seconds when I told my wife I couldn’t wait for the sequel. Reports are swirling already that production has already begun on Transformers 2 and about damn time I say!

Nothing feeds geekness like rumors, and IESB has one about some new baddies joining the Decepticons. IESB claims that the Constructicons will be coming to Earth to battle Optimus Prime and the Autobots. Who the hell are the Constructicons you say? What kind of sci-fi geek are you? The Constructicons consisted of Scrapper (front load shovel ), Scavenger (excavator), Mixmaster (Concrete Mixer), Hook (crane), Long Haul (dump truck), and Bonecrusher (bulldozer). One could say that this was a blatant attempt at selling toys to boys. Boys are notorious for their love of construction vehicles. However, the Constructicons were more than your average lazy DOT worker’s plaything. These guys joined together and transformed into the bad ass known as Devastator. While searching for a great image of Devastator, I happened across a completely amazing piece of art created by Alex Javier Carabajal over at Rise Studios. Look below to see the great mock up of Devastator and then click here to see the full sized photo.

Optimus Prime Rolls Out!

No one’s exactly sure what’s going on, but what’s certain is that someone is moving various Tranformers vehicles… somewhere. Last week smart Transformers geeks snapped photos of duplicate versions of Barricade being towed down the highway in Culver City, and now the guys over at SuperheroHype have snapped photos like this one:

Cloverfield Monster In Transformers 2!

fb share tweet share

aprilfools4q0rk.jpgBig news from the production of Transformers 2. Michael Bay is planning to change things up a bit for the second movie, by adding an organic element into the mix.

Bay is apparently a big fan of JJ Abrams’ Cloverfield, and in a new interview with the Sun Herald Times Daily he revealed that he’s talked to Abrams about using the Cloverfield monster in his upcoming Transformers sequel. Bay says, “we can’t do the same thing over and over again. We’ve done the Decepticons, now it’s time for these characters to face an entirely new threat. When you make a sequel everything has to be bigger, better, more spectacular, and more unexpected. People loved Cloverfield, and I can’t think of any better way to make our sequel even bigger than by combining these two franchises together.”

The catch here is of course, that they’ll actually have to show us the monster if Optimus Prime and the gang are going to fight it. In Cloverfield the monster is rarely seen and half-hidden for most of the movie. You never really get a good look at it. Or at least that should be the catch. Bay goes on to admit that the monster may not be the only thing they borrow from Cloverfield. He continues, “In the first movie we told the story from Sam’s perspective, but this time we want to take it even further and try some of what Abrams’ did with Cloverfield on our movie. We’ve already fitted Shia with a specially mounted camera which he’ll wear during filming. Rather than simply telling the story from his perspective, this time we’re actually going to shoot the thing from his perspective as well.” Shaky cam, meet Transformers. Transformers meet shaky cam.

Giant Freakin Update – Fanboys, Children of Men, Transformers, Halo, And More

I could be finishing up my review of Timothy Zahn’s latest Star Wars novel, but instead I’m doing this: Giving you loyal GFR stompers a quick recap of all the sci-fi related stories we missed in the last week or so, probably because I was too busy obsessing over the impending return of Battlestar Galactica. Can you blame me? Ron Moore’s show is awesome.

Rapid fire laser blasts:

– Frank Darabont’s attempt to turn Fahrenheit 451 into a movie took a hit this week. Tom Hanks, who had been attached to the project, ditched it. From his comments, Darabont seems to think this has all but killed the project.

Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick is turning Children of Men into a TV series. It’s already been an amazing movie done by Alfonso Cuaron, and now Eick is taking another shot adapting it. It’s hard to imagine he’ll be able to top Cuaron’s film, but I’m dying to see what he comes up with.

Transformers 2 may be stockpiling cars to begin shooting. This site scored pics of trucks loaded with Mustang police cars painted up with Decepticon logos.
