Watch One Final 12 Monkeys Clip Before The Premiere On Syfy Tonight

fb share tweet share

So here we are, Syfy’s 12 Monkeys is set to debut on the network later tonight. If you’ve been tuning in here over the past week or so, you’ve seen the first portion of the pilot, broken up into bite-sized nuggets. And now that the premiere is finally upon us, they’re back with one final short clip.

When we last left off on our serialized adventure, James Cole (Aaron Standford) was telling the story of how a vicious plague showed up and wrecked up the joint for the entire human race. Or at least most of it, as 7 billion people fell to the Kalavirus. There are some survivors, however, but things have not been kind to them, and as the disease mutates and evolves, there is roughly one generation left, then humanity is kaput. This is the perfect time for a last minute desperation hail Mary, and when scientists in the future discover the pieces of an experimental time travel device, that’s exactly what they see: a possible reset switch, a way to beat the plague and save the future.

The Expanse: Who’s Who And What’s What In That Amazing First Trailer

Of all the projects on Syfy’s suddenly ambitious development slate, the one I’m most looking forward to — and most dreading they might fuck up — is The Expanse, based on the stellar book series by James S.A. Corey. The first installment, 2011’s Leviathan Wakes, instantly became one of my favorite science fiction stories of all time, and the series pretty much has it all: action, mystery, interstellar politics, humor, and a richly detailed vision of a future where mankind has spread throughout the solar system, but not yet conquered the stars. Thankfully the first trailer for The Expanse hit yesterday, and it looks great. But if you haven’t read the books yet, it’s also hard to get a full sense of who’s who and what’s going on. Well, GFR has your back: we’ve pulled a ton of screencaps and will walk you through the world of The Expanse below. First off, here’s the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet.

This Trailer For Syfy’s The Expanse Has Zero-Gravity Sex And Deep-Space Mystery

If you’ve read this site with any regularity over the past year or so, you’re well aware that Syfy is in the process of upping its original content game exponentially. They have more than a dozen potentially awesome sci-fi shows in various stages of development, including everything from deep space adventure to alien invasions to time travel, clones, and more. Just the other day they added an Escape From New York-sounding series, and we just came across news of another one earlier today. One of the projects we’re most excited about, however, is The Expanse, and they just delivered this new trailer.

Based on the Hugo and Locus Award winning novels of James S.A. Corey (the collective pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), The Expanse is a thriller that takes place 200 years in the future in a fully colonized solar system. Detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), is tasked with finding a missing heiress named Juliette Andromeda Mao (Florence Faivre). Unraveling the mystery takes him all over the galaxy, and he uncovers a vast conspiracy that adds strain to an already tense relationship between Earth, Mars, and the people of the asteroid belt.

The World Only Has One Generation Left In This 12 Monkeys Clip

At this rate, we’ll probably see at least the first 20 minutes of Syfy’s new 12 Monkeys series before it has it’s proper debut this Friday. Over the last few days the cable network has gradually been revealing the pilot in bits and pieces, starting with that nine-minute chunk. There will be five in total, and now we’ve got number four for your perusal.

As usual, this picks up where the last left off. In this case, James Cole (Aaron Stanford) wakes up three days after Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schall) patches him up, and after he’s had some crazy-ass fever dream, flashback-style hallucinations. Losing lots of blood and getting sewn up without anesthetic will do that to you. I also feel like someone at the fancy hotel they’re at would have called the cops after a crazy, ranting, blood-covered homeless man stumbled into their establishment, but maybe it’s the kind of place where the guests get all the leeway they want or need.

Syfy’s 12 Monkeys Flashes Back To The Future In Yet Another Clip

At the rate we’re going, we’ll see a substantial chunk of the debut episode of Syfy’s 12 Monkeys well before the premiere this Friday. Actually, between the release of the first nine minutes, followed by another three, we’ve already laid eyes on roughly a quarter of the pilot, but that’s not enough, that’s never enough, and the network released another piece for our perusal.

Syfy Turns Greenland Into A Dystopian Prison In This New Drama

GreenlandJust when you think Syfy is done expanding their development slate, those crazy kids go ahead and add something else to their ever-growing list of future shows. Today they announced their latest endeavor, the futuristic prison drama 51st State, and it sounds like something we can totally get into.

The one-hour drama is set in the nearish future when the prison population in the United States has grown so vast, so out of control, that there is nowhere left incarcerate criminals. And here is the best solution you’ve ever heard, the government buys Greenland—yes, they buy Greenland, because that’s something you can do in the future, purchase a whole other country—and convert the island nation into frontier style prison colony, one where both male and female convicts are mixed together.
