Set between the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Star Wars: Rebels is an animated series that delves into the formation of the Rebel Alliance and its early resistance against the oppressive Galactic Empire.
Star Wars Rebels Characters
At the heart of the series is Ezra Bridger, a young orphan with latent Force abilities. He’s taken under the wing of Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi Knight in hiding after Order 66.
Alongside them are the crew of the Ghost ship: Hera Syndulla, the Twi’lek pilot and leader; Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian explosives expert and graffiti artist; Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, the last of his species and the team’s muscle; and Chopper, a grumpy old astromech droid.
As the series progresses, they form a surrogate family and become key figures in the budding Rebel Alliance.
Star Wars: Rebels Setting & Themes
The galaxy is under the tight grip of the Empire, and the series moves across various planets and locations, showing the breadth of Imperial control and the pockets of resistance sprouting in the shadows.
Star Wars: Rebels consistently delves into themes of hope, resistance, and sacrifice. It highlights the importance of found families and the idea that individuals, no matter how small, can make a difference against overwhelming odds. Moreover, it provides deeper insights into the Force, the ongoing struggle between the light and dark sides, and the legacy of the Jedi Order.
Star Wars: Rebels beautifully blends the expansive lore of the Star Wars universe with personal tales of bravery and resilience, making it an essential watch for fans of the franchise.
Star Wars: Rebels Returns in Ahsoka
Star Wars: Rebels fans were rightfully excited about the plans for the Ahsoka series, and the show delivered. We got live-action versions of many many characters with Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera, and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.
We even got Grand Admiral Thrawn in the mix. The show picked up after the events of Rebels which essentially set the chairs around in the universe for this series.
