CapaldiPeter Capaldi’s first season as The Doctor just wrapped up a little over a week ago, and we’re a month and a half out from his first full Christmas special. But we still didn’t actually know at this point whether he’d be returning for season nine. I mean, it certainly seemed like a given, but nobody had confirmed that he had signed on the line which is dotted. Thankfully now we know, and the word is good.

SPOILERS if you aren’t caught up with Doctor Who!

Check Out These Incredible Retro Doctor Who Season 8 Posters

Doctor Who Series 8Series 8 of BBC’s long running sci-fi adventure Doctor Who may be in the books, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate Peter Capaldi’s reign as Time Lord. And if you’re looking for something to fill the time while you wait for the Blu-ray release of the most recent series and the Christmas Special, these fantastic new, pulp style posters may be just the distraction you’re looking for.

Commissioned by the magazine Radio Times, these pieces, designed in a throwback style, are the work of artist Stuart Manning. Each one focuses on an episode featuring Capaldi’s twelfth incarnation of the venerable Doctor, and as you can see, they all focus on elements from the particular episode, working in themes, visually and otherwise, from the specific chapter. For instance, there’s dinosaurs on the “Deep Breath” poster, a mummy from “Mummy on the Orient Express,” and, well, a Dalek on “Into the Dalek.”

The Twelfth Doctor Issue #1 Is Dark, Bitter, And Has Skunk Monkeys

Doctor WhoAs Doctors Ten and Eleven continue to live on in the pages of new comic books, one series for each Time Lord, Peter Capaldi’s twelfth incarnation has been bringing layer of dark grittiness to the airwaves every week for the last few months. But that’s not enough for him, oh no, the newest Man from Gallifrey is also getting his very own monthly title from Titan Comics, and now we have issue #1 of Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor

Clara is along for the ride, too, though she’s still having some issues coming to terms with the Doctor’s new face, and personality. It’s also getting increasingly difficult to juggle her teaching duties with adventures through space and time—she’s one of the cool teachers, even though the kids call her Ms. Oddwald or Ms. Oddbod.

Watch Doctor Who Flatline In Trailer And Photos For Next Episode

Doctor Who season 8 is chugging along nicely, with Peter Capaldi bringing a level of grumpy old man to the venerable Time Lord that hasn’t been a part of the repertoire for quite some time. Next weekend sees the ninth episode of the new year, “Flatline,” and the BBC has released a trailer and a bunch of still photos from the next chapter.

In “Flatline,” Clara (Jenna Coleman) gets separated from the Doctor and encounters a harrowing new menace that originates in another dimension. From this footage it certainly looks like someone is pulling people through into other realms where the abductees are then being experimented on in some way. You can’t help but feel like they’re trying to understand us in order to better deal with us when they invade. If that’s the case, it feels a little bit like parts of Fringe. As the synopsis says, “how do you hide when even the walls are no protection? With people to save and the Doctor trapped, Clara comes up against an enemy that exists beyond human perception.”

Doctor Who Season 8 Preview Shows Off New Footage And Capaldi’s Inner Child

Season 8 of the BBC’s venerable sci-fi adventure Doctor Who kicks off a little less than two weeks from today—okay, it’s exactly two weeks from tomorrow, premiering on Saturday, August 23. They’ve been building up to Peter Capaldi’s 12th version of the Time Lord from Gallifrey for so long that it’s easy to forget that this will be our first real introduction to him. He popped up in the Christmas Special at the end of last year, but that was little more than a brief cameo. This new video unveils a handful of short new bits of footage from the upcoming season, and probes Capaldi’s mind about his character and his feelings on taking over such a popular, beloved character.

This footage comes from Doctor Who TV, and shows off a few new snippets. There’s nothing super exciting, but you do get a sense of the dynamic between the Doctor and his latest travelling companion Clara (Jenna Louise Coleman). We’ve known for some time that this incarnation of the character is supposedly going to be a darker version, or as they say in this video, “less light, more shade.” That fact definitely comes across in a couple of these clips.

Doctor Who Rumors: More Companions And Some Serious Deja Vu

fb share tweet share

WhoLast week we learned that Doctor Who will be returning for its eighth modern season this August, but the brief teaser didn’t give us much to go on. As we inch closer to the show’s season premiere, there are, however, some intriguing rumors making the rounds, including the possibility of more companions taking up residence in the TARDIS and a brain-twisting idea that could somehow, within the narrative, address the fact that Twelfth Doctor actor Peter Capaldi has already appeared in the Who-niverse twice as other characters.

First, the companions. Clara (Jenna Coleman) is obviously returning, but there have also been rumors that actor Samuel Anderson, who is playing a recurring character named Danny Pink, will be traveling with the Doctor as a companion. Pink is a teacher at Coal Hill School, the same place where Clara is on the teaching staff. And of course long-time Who fans will recall that Coal Hill played a big part in the very first Doctor Who story: the Doctor’s first companions, Ian and Barbara, both taught at Coal Hill, where the Doctor’s “granddaughter” Susan had been attending school while they were on Earth. But if Danny Pink is to be a new companion, he might not be the only one.
