Patrick Stewart Had This Great Response To Reprising His Star Trek Role

Patrick StewartWhenever a beloved series gets cancelled, it opens up the doorway for the would-you-be-interested-in-more conversation. It feels like cast members of shows like Star Trek, The X-Files, Firefly, and others are destined to be asked this question in damn near every interview they do from now until the day they die. And I’m sure it has come up before, but someone recently asked Patrick Stewart if he’d be down for reprise his Star Trek: The Next Generation role of Jean-Luc Picard, and his answer is just about perfect.

Pumping up his new film, Match, where he apparently does a lot of cocaine, he took part in a Q&A session on Facebook. The topic of whether or not he’d be interested in revisiting the role he played for 176 episodes and a handful of movies came up, of course, and he gave this cheerful answer:

Watch Patrick Stewart Celebrate Christmas With The Most Absurd Hat Ever

We know Christmas was two days ago, but, especially with a weekend right after, we’re all still in the shadow of the holiday, sort of working in the interim between the birth of Baby Jesus (and Sir Isaac Newton) and the start of the new calendar year. Christmas is the kind of holiday you can stretch out for as long as you want, and in that spirit, here is a video of Patrick Stewart wearing what is maybe the most ridiculous holiday hat you’ve ever seen. Enjoy.

Patrick Stewart Makes One Sick Young Star Trek Fan’s Dream Come True

fb share tweet share

Patrick StewartWe’ll love Patrick Stewart forever just because he happened to play Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation (it doesn’t hurt matters that he also makes a damn fine Professor X/Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies). But by all accounts he’s a solid dude to boot. For example, he recently gave a sick young Star Trek one hell of a fantastic surprise, something she’ll never forget.

Eleven-year-old Georgia resident Dawn Garrigus is a massive Star Trek fan. She also happens to suffer from mitochondrial disease. This is an inherited chronic illness that leads to a variety of problems, including poor growth, as well as debilitating physical and mental disabilities. It’s progressive, getting worse over time, and there is no cure at the present time. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Dawn was recently able to go to Dragon Con, a science fiction and fantasy convention in Atlanta, where her favorite series was scheduled to make an appearance. She even dressed up like Spock for the occasion.

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, And Chris Pratt Take The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

fb share tweet share

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is absolutely everywhere right now. There are segments about it on the evening news, people I barely knew in high school are posting videos on their Facebook pages and calling out their friends, and, of course, loads of celebrities are getting in on the act. We’ve reached the point where there has become a backlash, and that backlash has even gotten big enough that there’s a backlash against the backlash. How quickly the whole phenomenon has grown and spread, and the way it’s evolved, is fascinating. So we have to write about this at least once, and who better to get us to do that than Star Trek: The Next Generation lead, and Professor X himself, Patrick Stewart, who has one of the best videos yet. But he’s not the only member of team sci-fi doing this.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard is not the only celebrity to try to get out of dousing himself with cold, cold water, though it looks like he’s going to make a sizeable donation. At least we hope that’s why he’s got his checkbook out, otherwise he’s just kind of a dick, and he’s never come across as one before, so why start now?

Patrick Stewart Will Appear On Tonight’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

I suppose if you don’t want to spoil tonight’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, then don’t watch the video below. But I’ll spoil it anyway: the butler did it.

For the most part, Fox’s info-tainment series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey has done a solid job delivering stunning visuals and science facts without the network’s normal reliance on using celebrities to promote it all. I’m still surprised Jack Bauer hasn’t yet found a way to enter the story by saving Neil deGrasse Tyson from Plutonian spies. That changes a little bit tonight when the iconic Patrick Stewart stops by to lend a hand. Or his voice, as it were.

Patrick Stewart Delivers A Heart-Rending Monologue As China’s Busted Lunar Rover

We here at GFR had been quite enjoying the images and video sent back by China’s Jade Rabbit lunar rover over the past few weeks. But suddenly: disaster! Last week word came that J.R. was in trouble. Or, as the Xinhua news agency put it, it had suffered a “mechanical control abnormality,” which the State Administration of Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defence said was caused by the “complicated lunar surface environment.” In short: the Moon done busted it. Now the rover is unlikely to survive the next lunar night cycle. But if Jade Rabbit is facing the twilight of its short but noteworthy career, at least it will be remembered…and by Patrick Stewart in a silly hat, no less.
