What If Luke Skywalker Accepted Darth Vader’s Offer To Rule The Galaxy?

VaderFatherIt’s one of the most iconic moments not only in science fiction, but movie history in general. (And I’m not going to put a spoiler warning for The Empire Strikes Back, if you haven’t seen it at this point, that’s on you, or your parents.) When Darth Vader reveals that he is in fact Luke Skywalker’s father and reaches out his hand to his son, whose hand he just lopped off, and says they can rule the galaxy together, Luke cries, screams, and chucks himself down what is essentially a garbage chute. Probably not the reaction Vader was hoping for, but what if this went down another way? What if Luke was like, “Sure, I’ll come run shit with you, dad”? That’s the basic idea behind this clever new web comic.

This brief comic strip comes from the fine folks over at Dorkly. It’s a pretty damn good time, and not a half bad way to spend a couple of minutes of your Christmas Eve. They have all kinds of fantastic nerdy comics and the like, but this has to be one of my favorites, just for the concept alone. It’s such a simple “What if,” but so genius at the same time. You also have to wonder how Vader would react. He didn’t really expect Luke to let it all slide, and say, “Sure, you just froze my bro in carbonite, cut off my hand, are a general evil, despotic bastard, not to mention an absentee father, but what the hell, I’ll team up with you.” Did he? I would be taken aback and startled too.

Luke Skywalker Has A Fire Burning In His Eyes In Star Wars: Episode VII

Now that we know the title of the next Star Wars movie, there’s nothing more to discuss, right? Oh wait, there’s still everything to speculate about because aside from the fact that it is now officially called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we still don’t know all that much. But now there’s a report going around that could shed some light on the state of one of the returning characters: Luke Skywalker.

Two things. First, SPOILERS! SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!!! Or at least potential ones. Which brings us to point number two, this is completely unsubstantiated, and though it does seem to jive with other things we’ve heard, take it with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode VII: This Is What Luke Skywalker Has Been Up To Recently

star warsOver the last few days it feels like all I’ve written about is Star Wars: Episode VII. Between connections to Star Wars: Rebels, set photos of that one ship, and those even newer set photos of that badass other ship (see, I’m trying to be a good sport and not spoil anything above the jump), there’s been quite a bit to discuss. And that continues, as we’ve heard some possible news about whereabouts one of the returning franchise vets who may be missing in action (if you’ve kept up with the scuttlebutt, you know who I’m talking about).

As per usual, there are possible SPOILERS for Episode VII beyond this point. You’ve been warned, continue with caution. Also, take what you read beyond here with a grain of salt. Nothing is official, and nothing is likely to become official until we actually see the damn movie on December 18, 2015. Keep that in mind.

Star Wars Beats The Odds At Fashion Week

Star Wars dressesProject Runway is one of my favorite guilty-pleasure shows. Sure, there’s workroom bickering and, sometimes, full-on freak outs (last season, a ticking time bomb contestant literally fled the competition and eliminated himself), but I’m consistently flabbergasted at seeing the designers create pant-suits and ball gowns from items purchased at a hardware or grocery store. Sometimes, they put elements together that seem incongruous at best and disastrous at worst, but once you see the final outfit on the runway, you have to admit that, somehow, they did indeed make it work. The judges generally encourage fashion risks, such as mixing prints or hand-drawn designs, and I can’t help but wonder what they’d think about Rodarte’s Star Wars-themed outfits.
