In the future, no one will have to think about whether or not to produce a J.J. Abrams project, because J.J. Abrams will be the head of every company, creating everything himself. And then the cloning will begin.
Back in September, Abrams and his fellow Fringe writer and producer J.H. Wyman brought an untitled sci-fi drama to FOX, who committed to making a pilot at some point in the future. The future is now, and the pilot order is in. The pilot has already been written by Wyman, and has been described as an action-packed buddy-cop show, set in a near-future that partners LAPD police officers with highly evolved, human-like androids. Not sure how near a future this is going to be unless the partner is incredibly creepy looking, lacks the smoothness of human motion, and isn’t capable of independent thought. But somehow, I bet the partner is going to be an attractive male or female.
Wyman will also be serving as executive producer for the Warner Bros. TV/Bad Robot project, along with Kathy Lingg and Bad Robot’s Abrams and Bryan Burk. They don’t specify who will step in and cancel the show just as its cult status peaks, but you can bet that person is lurking around, rubbing his hands together gleefully. Abrams has another project with Alfonso Cuarón still in casting mode on NBC, the “hunt the girl with powers” drama tentatively titled Believe.
