See Ryan Reynolds In His Green Lantern Costume

With Comic Con literally only a week away and Warner Bros planning a big, Green Lantern event during the year’s annual geek-a-palooza, you’d think they’d have waited and simply debuted this image then. But I guess the needs of corporate payola outweigh their desire for proper marking so, to prop up Entertainment Weekly, they’ve decided to debut your first ever look at Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern through the magazine.

Green Lantern May Be The First Superhero Without Underwear

green lantern movieAccording to a rumor on Slashfilm, Ryan Reynolds won’t wear a costume while playing Green Lantern. Instead they have him running around the set in a motion capture suit which they’ll digitally replace with some sort of computer generated outfit in the film. They explain:

I’ve heard that when the cg is complete, the suit will look like a manifestation of his power. And while I couldn’t confirm this, I’ve heard that DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has seen the designs and given them his blessing.

The suit is lined with white LEDs, which I initially thought might be used to give a practical glow (kind of like how Billy Crudup wore blue LEDs to give the actors around Dr. Manhattan a blue glow in Watchmen), but I’ve since been told might just be for mo-cap tracking purposes.

Hollywood’s in love with 3D and while something like Precious probably isn’t worth going through the trouble to distribute glasses, science fiction in particular is in tinsletown’s targeting reticule. Here’s this week’s batch of future 3D movies:

Green Lantern Concept Art Shows Off Alien Lanterns

Concept art from the upcoming Green Lantern movie has popped up online. It shows off two of the less terrestrial members of the Green Lantern brotherhood. What, you thought there was only one Lantern? Nope. In the comics he’s just one member of a Green Lantern Corps which spans the galaxy protecting it from all sorts of nasty things.

The artist renderings below showcase two of its members, named Kilowog and Tomar-Re respectively. They’re Green Lantern trainers, which means you can expect to see these two oddly skinned dudes showing Ryan Reynolds how to use his ring in the movie. See more where it all originated at CosmicBookNews.
